The all-new BMW 5 Series Touring takes the saloon's slick styling, updated chassis, modern in-car tech and punchy engines and adds a boatload of extra practicality in the form of a roomier estate rear end. Will this E-Class Estate, Audi A6 Avant and Volvo V90 rival lead the field of does BMW's latest effort disappoint? I head to the international launch in Germany to find out

I drove one for a hire car a diesel M Sport it was nice to drive and the seats were semi comfy not as sumptuous as a Merc, my C-class was getting fixed so had this for 2 wks. A thirsty car but cruises nicely the downside I found was they say the media system is better than mercedes but I found the opposite also no folding door mirrors when locking the car in a car park. nice car but heavy compared to my mercedes c-class thought the bow equal is the E class. But when you put your foot down from starting off it goes but you can feel the cars weight, which in turn makes you feel safe but like I said it's thirsty.

Yes this car is great. I had a chance to be taken for a trip in this car 2017 3L Disel ( base 3L) and it is phenomenal. 2018 must be even better I guess although looks the same. Perhaps they added more gadgets.
Acceleration, smoothness of this car is great. If I could afford it would be in my garage right now. The owner told me that he did a trip London - Berlin in it and averaged 48 mpg and wasn't driving economically doing more than 100+ m/hr where he could, which is great for such a fast and big car.

While I understand that the manufacturers have press cars fully loaded then that-s not not not the car I would buy because I don-t have a money tree in the garden. It must be so hard to find something faulty with 640nm, adaptive suspension and all the shit in the world in the car. I can-t use this review for anything other than that-s a nice car I can-t afford. Must be a thumb down from me even though I generally like you reviews.

Yes, but is it equipped with a security system that sprays tear gas and delivers electric shocks to intruders, or a fingerprint-protected safe hidden behind the passenger airbag compartment, or a roof-mounted rocket launcher, self-sealing and re-inflating tires, a cable cutting device in the front bonnet emblem or a caltrop dispenser under the rear bumper?

Remember when Mercedes eliminated hundreds of useless functions from its cars' computers? I see this in BMW's future. And who wants a larger key fob so they can play RC cars with their BMW? Also, good luck with Italians and gesture control!

This I believe will be on my shopping list, I'm just unsure if they sell the 5 series in a station wagon format in canada. I only want it to be had in a diesel motor.
But the features they seem a little light on them like the 3 series

Lovely! But u not talking about safety at all! How safety is if you have a car crash for example. You only talk about comfortable, and how cool is that hand movements controls. But how about safety? I missed that bit!

I tested the 530d xdrive touring and 550d xdrive saloon and i have to say that it is the most confortable car i have ever driven, it is hard to point out anything bad about it except the turning radius

To Americans it's what we called a -station wagon-. No matter how practical and useful, if your family had one it brought shame to the families' teenage son. You were the ultimate square.

Can the germans learn from Volvo that minimalistic is the future? I really hate all the houndred bottons. Looks like a 10- fiesta inside.
my 07qashqai has less buttons AND touchscreen.
