New G63 v Old G63: OFF-ROAD RACE!

It s time for an almighty AMG G63 off-road battle! We ve got Mat in the old AMG G63, and he s going head-to-head against the latest generation G63 over a series of off-road challenges to see just how different these two cars are! The thing is, under the skin, it s no surprise that these two are pretty identical. Starting with the old G63, it s powered by a 5. 5-litre V8 which can produce 540hp and 760Nm of torque. It comes with a ladder frame chassis and 3 lockable diffs, and if you re looking to pick one up today it ll cost you around 70, 000. Then we have the new G63. It s swapped the 5. 5-litre V8 for a 4-litre V8, but the power output has been increased to 585hp and 850Nm! It s also built on a ladder frame chassis with 3 lockable diffs, and the weight is almost identical, at around 2, 500kg. However, whereas the old G63 can be bought for around 70, 000, you ll need to spend over 100k MORE on a new edition! So is it worth it? Stick with Mat and see for yourself! Adrian: Proper of road freaks know that the old G Wagons even before this one are the best for off-road! Way less electronic that can break! I know from experience that the new one often get electronic problems when you drove hard core off-road for 1-2 years and many rust spots! The old one really work for ages!

The G63 has always been amazing and for Off-Road Use and here in Europe in the Alps you see them usually very dirty with Mud everywhere because they have been used Off-Road since forever. And yes, i also talk about the AMG Versions.
I don't see Rich People going shopping mainly driving these around here (like you do in the UK and USA. Of course we have these too, but most People get them dirty and use them in the Alps, especially during the Snow or rainy & muddy Days.

But is 175 (rounded) thousand pounds really worth it if you know you're in debt & the person trailing (off road) with you gas their G63 paid off? That's 105 thousand pounds for a GT500 to compare on the road (since there's usually one driver, no passengers.

just change the headlights and side mirrors on the old one and you have a new G Class (I know the new one is more technically advanced but for day to day driving, respecting speed limits, the old one is fine enough even if the handling is bad)

Great video as always. what I totally do not get: why for god's sake would Mercedes put the exhaust pipes on the side under the sill? That is the preferred place to get in contact with big rocks! For an Offroader a really weird choice.

I thought they got rid of the 6. 3L Engine? Wait, it wasn't 6. 3? It hasn't even been 6. 2 for a while? At least it's 5. 5 Liters, right? Oh wait, it's just a badge, could be a 3 cylinder by the noise side of things. Or a broken vacuum cleaner.

Some of the test results would be different depending on who was driving.
Can't really say a car won or lost, if one driver is better than other driver.
Better is same driver tests each car, then we see which car is best.

I'd be interested to see these offroad tests with the road tires first then a set of proper offroad tires too, could make a big difference for some of the old vs new challenges i think.

Well, at least it's two 63's against each other, even though the other trim levels are more for off road. Your ground clearance is actually way less because of those side exhausts.

i prefer old one) The design of old is just better) the new one has ugly front end, kinda looks like Soviet Luaz 969. The old one is more handsome, imho.

Mercedes-Benz used to be the brand I liked the most, now they completely lost interest in improving their cars and switched to milking their customers.

I love the g-class(preferebly the diesel engined. my favourite items are the exposed door hinges & the front direction markers. yes am that strange
reply

strange that matt always went second ( had a target to aim at ) and persuaded Graham to change his mind on one occasion, I smell a rat

Why don't you guys do off road challenges between bikes and SUV's as well, it will be fun and interesting. Call chris and do it.
