Say hello to the all-new Peugeot 408! We ve got our hands on Peugeot s all-new half hatchback, half SUV, and we re about to see if it can stand out in this oh-so-crowded car market. For starters, the 408 is clearly a looker. With loads of creases and sharp angular taillights, we re getting some serious Urus vibes from the rear! The good looks continue up front too, with a cool grille design and Peugeot s instantly recognisable fang daytime running lights. What s more, the good looks continue once you step inside the cabin. There s a cool dash design up top, and the seats aren t only comfortable, but also come in an Alcantara-like material. The infotainment system is a real winner, too, with both the central screen and digital dials being highly customisable. It s easy to choose an engine, as there are only three to choose from. The entry-level comes with a 1. 2-litre turbo petrol that can deliver 130hp, and then there are two plug-in hybrids, with the range-topper being a 1. 6-litre turbo petrol coupled with an electric motor which can deliver 225hp. It can also drive for up to 40 miles on electric power alone. All sounds pretty positive, right? Well, there s one key sticking point The price! The 408 starts at around 31, 000, and the one we have our hands on here will set you back around 46, 000! So is it worth it? You ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself! Yann: Hey Matt, if the car comes with 17 wheels as standard tell people to keep them don't tell them they are too small.
Even if you prefer the way it looks with 19, they will increase fuel consumption, give you a harsher ride, mess up the handling and steering and will cost you extra into the bargain. You are also more likely to rash your rims if you kerb them instead if it just scraping the deeper tyre a bit.
The only thing they do is look better- perhaps.

Crazy that PSA did not manage to come up with a better gasoline engine, after they scavanged engine technologies from BMW with their prince engine(which ended up in every gas powered Mini until 2015) cooperation. Don't get me wrong, it's a great engine, but and after all Im quite happy with the longitudual prince engine iteration that powers my 1 series, but it's over ten years old design by now. Meanwhile BMW moved on with a completely new engine generation that already received several updates also on the low end(3 cyl) Perfectly shows which car manufacturers are rly into engine development, while others are doing better, using bought(and in terms of being state of the art technology already obsolete) intelectual property

can't help but remember a dash cam clip of a peugeuot driver in slow moving traffic straddling 2 lanes to block off about half a mile of road and stop someone trying to merge in turn - that's the kind of people who buy these cars.

Ref Mat's problems with the car locking itself - When most cars unlocked using the keyfob, they will lock again after 30 seconds or so if none of the doors are opened. This is a common security feature to avoid theft etc.

You shld say what the Civic achieved over the same range. That wld be an interesting comparison between a self charging and PHEV. In fact why not do that. In fact why not invite me along to do it with you.

Looks great, but I could never buy a frog motor, they are shite lol.
Matt can you make sure you drag half the field into the car and the run up and throw the case in the back as hard as possible

Mat, an advice for Peugeots, Citroens and Vauxhalls: they automatically lock after 30 seconds if you unlock them and don't open any door. So open a door and close again and it won't lock

Too loud, strange looks, (too) firm ride and an incredibly boring, cheap looking, uninspired grey in grey interior with a ludicrously rutted dashboard. Really, who approves this?
reply

It really looks like a mini Urus. This will be fun for about 5 minutes, but it will get annoying rather quickly.
It already lost appeal during the playtime of this video.

BMW 5GT which was a flop when came out because of its design etc now look every car is copying the same style. You can buy a nice 13 reg or over for about 7k. I love mine

The exterior is overdesigned, and the engines. Gawd, why are French automakers afraid of 300+ hp engines ffs? This car, with a 6-cyl and 450hp, would be way better.

12: 57 Funny how BMW said they were using the new BIG kidney to help hide the new technology used in modern cars. I suppose you wont see it if you're blind.
reply

please. the words scratchy and scratchable are not interchangeable. the dash board and kick panels might be scratchable but they are NOT scratchy.
reply

Its locking itself because you never opened a door. Its a security feature in case you open it accidently from your house it wont stay unlocked.

Mercedes Benz has put their radar gubbery in their big grille badge for many years. Willl there be a Vauxhall equivalent cross-over to the 408?
