Forget about supercars - it s time for a pick-up truck drag race! We ve got our hands on the new Ford Ranger Raptor, and it s going head-to-head against the new VW Amarok and Toyota GR Sport Hilux! So let s see how these three compare. Starting with the Amarok, it s powered by a 3-litre V6 turbo diesel engine that can produce 240hp and 600Nm. This power is sent to all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic gearbox, and it tips the scales at just under 2, 300kg. If you re looking to pick up this exact model, it ll set you back around 57, 000. Alongside it we have the Ford. It has the same size engine under the bonnet as the Amarok, and it puts down 292hp and 491Nm. Its power is also sent to all four wheels via a 10-speed gearbox, but it s both slightly heavier and more expensive than the VW, coming in at 2, 454kg and 59, 500 respectively. Finally we have the Toyota. It s packing a 2. 8-litre 4 cylinder turbo Diesel engine under the bonnet, which can produce 204hp and 500Nm. It s also equipped with four wheel drive, although the gearbox is only a 6-speed automatic! It s the lightest car here though, tipping the scales at 2, 125kg, and it s also the cheapest, coming in at 48, 600.

I know before start the video that hilux will lost wkwkkww. But in my country hilux has more popularity than others for working on mining or civil construction. Why? Because tough, reliable and can go anywhere, also it has big axle. But if you go with ranger, from 2015 or 2016 maybe, their car tipically that will bring you back to back to workshop and it will cost lost of money because spareparts for ranger are very expensive. . I can say this cause i've used mitsubishi strada l200, mitsubishi triton, ford ranger, and now using hilux and pretty well done

I'm surprised that the GR hilux dont have more power then standard. Australian version GR Hilux has the same 2. 8 engine that was tuned to have a little more HP and torque. But then different countries have different spec of the same car.

Hilux every day of the week, and twice on a Sunday. Yes, I have spent A LOT of time in all three, and I have owned a previous generation Ranger and a previous generation Amarok. Day-to-day the Hilux is just easier to get along with.

The Hilux is fascinating as an American. The V6 version in Australia is interesting, as is the slightly higher HP South African/Kenyan GR Safari version. We settle for the Taco tho, in all its glory: )

Definetly the best British burn I've heard so far Nick, you couldnt even drive forwards sedately to the right location I take offence to that, us Nick's are great drivers! Lol

Toyota puts the GR logo and some red color here and there and claims that it is a sports class, and in fact it is a car without any change from the regular cars

Wow my 250, 000 mile 2003 dodge Ram 2500 quad cab slt with a 5. 7 liter V8 is faster than these trucks. It ran a 15. 88 85. 28 mph not at sea level either.

Hey Matt, the RS6/7 performance seems to have similar power specs to that of the Porsche Cayenne GT. Head 2 head with them? Preferably the RS7 for aero.

3litre only putting out 204hp & 240hp is ridiculous. You got 1. 6 engines putting out more then that, massively under powered for such heavy vehicles.

I sat in the new Amarok. It's a ford engine with a ford chassis, fomoco labels everywhere and a hefty pricetag. I'll keep my 2017 V6 Amarok instead.

This drag race is just like a normal traffic light stop and go in Australia.
Not really, but the UTE is the most common vehicle in Australia.

reply

Hi car wow, your video is unfair. You should have brought ford v6 diesel not raptor. Please do comparison between VW 580 V6 and the new Amarok.

Will take the Toyota, the others does not come standard with a weak engine, rattles, tupperware interior, and dated technology Viva Toyota
reply

So the truck with the most HP and warm tires, won, how is that possible, and why Toyota uses drums instead of disks, it's not 19 century.

In the recent Amarok review vlog, I put forward a request to have Mat put these 3 against each other, glad to see he took it up.
