It s the hardcore, track-focused version of the regular C8 Corvette, and Mat s about to find out just what s changed over the standard car. Starting with the design, there s more than just some new badging to help the Z06 stand out from the regular C8. Up front there are some bigger air intakes (to help cool the bigger radiators) along with a larger, protruding splitter. Along the side the wheel arches stick out further to help house the larger & wider wheels, while there s also extended side skirts and bigger air intakes. Then around the back, the twin tailpipes from the C8 have been brought together to make quad tailpipes in the centre of the car, and a gurney flap has also been added to the rear spoiler. It s a different story on the inside, though, with only a handful of changes to be found. The steering wheel now comes with Z06 badging, and it s possible to upgrade it to include some carbon fibre. Some new figure-hugging sports seats have been added, and there are Z06 kick plates on either side But that s your lot! Otherwise, it s the same as the regular C8. But of course, the biggest change comes with the engine. Despite the Z06 having a smaller-sized engine than the C8 (with the 6. 2-litre NA V8 swapping for a 5. 5-litre NA V8, it has so much more power. You see, this is no regular V8 Chevrolet have taken a Ferrari 458 engine, reverse-engineered it, and given it 100hp more. As a result, the Z06 pumps out an eye-watering 670hp, making it the most powerful naturally-aspirated V8 in the world! The Z06 starts from around 100, 000, which is around 40, 000 more than the regular C8 Corvette. So is it worth it? You ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

Im an American, so naturally, I love my country. I'm not a super patriot or a veteran, nothing like that. But I do like the freedoms we are granted. But when you were telling everyone that America doesn't have to charge MSRP, that they could go well beyond it, legally, might I add. But hearing an Englishman saying that makes me realize that America has become a very crooked country. Anything to do with business in America is going to be very skewed, have loads of very gray areas and can become very corrupt (if it's not already.

Im in Ohio, and before this was released, one was being tested by a local dealership in this color, and I got on the freeway and this car zipped past me so fast and was out of view in about 5 seconds. and I was going 80 mph. it was incredible to watch it disappear before you knew it. And Matt, watch yourself. youre doing illegal double yellow line passes on the highway. Only pass on dotted yellow lines on your side of the double lines.

All these highest power NA engine monikers make me chuckle.
Most power 8, 500 rpm. Where you'll only ever be in first gear. Possibly second, occasionally.
When you're below that, the power is fairly average. If not for the brilliant sound higg revving NAs make there wouldn't be much point in them at all anymore.

OVER 4 seconds. Yeah. Corvette promised a car that would accelerate to 60 in 2. 9. And that was the claim for the STANDARD 450-something HP car. This C06 was supposed to do it in 2. 6 But as always, those were feel-good-about-America numbers. Not at all real.

Typical US BS 0-60 times that you can only achieve with deflated drag slicks on a absolutely perfect drag strip! Looks like they BS as much as the Italians, the complete opposite of the Germans that quote a very quick time that is then beaten considerably in real life.

Been waiting for this one! Can t wait to see it in a Car Wow drag race video! I d love to see it against a Lamborghini Aventador or Ferrari 458 Speciale.
But of course the track is where it s truly a monster!

Mat the guy to launch his audi r8 v10 with the roof top closed to get the best launch time, while here he be launching the corvette Z06 with the roof top open, worse airo dynamic ever hence poor launch time

That C8 looks great in orange I must admit same with that engine sound. Very much the American V8 way, 670hp as well from a smaller engine! Looking forward to seeing this in a drag race in the near future.

The upcoming Corvette E-Ray will have AWD. It will be quicker than this Z06 in every metric. The AWD will give it traction even on the worst surfaces. The days of RWD only Corvettes are numbered.

If was blindfolded and paying attention only to the segments where you could hear the engine sound I'd have betted my kidneys that was a 458. They must have reverse engineered it to perfection.

Calling Jesse a NASCAR driver isn't really. true anymore. He's a team owner now and when he was racing he was. Questionable. He's a great guy though, really nice of him to lend you his car

I don't consider the new Corvette a real Corvette. It's apparently a great car, especially for the money, but (to me) it just lost the true Corvette character when it went mid-engined.
reply

It's a cool car this. They basically bought a Ferrari 458 and copied it to create this. I don't like the tacograph on the dashboard though. It looks like a 90's arcade racing game

This video, inadvertently highlights the extreme greed of the American auto industry.
50K mark ups (on the very low side) and 600 tire change are just plain asinine.

reply

With that markups, wouldn't it be much cheaper, to buy american cars in europe and reimport them?
And shouldn't the competition automatically lower the prices?

reply

The engine in this isn't really smaller (physically) than the LT2, as that is an OHV engine and this is DOHC. Just less displacement. Both are great in their own way
reply

Mat seems to launch the cars pretty damn well. I would love to see that Z06 on a prepped surface and see if it could get any closer to its claimed 0-60mph time.
reply

You re launching it without a roof, that decreases aerodynamics or slickness and increases drag, maybe that's why it s not doing 0-60 as fast as it should
reply

incredible but i like these cars with luxury inside so that it is a good driving car aswell. a merc balances both luxury and performance perfecly
reply

Still waiting for the zr1 and the other crazy version whose name i don't know to come out. Jesse, it would be best to install struts on the doors
