Ken Block Hoonitron v Audi R8 GT v RS e-tron GT: DRAG RACE

Mat s lining up in the absolutely incredible Audi S1 Hoonitron, and he s about to go head-to-head against an Audi RS e-tron GT and an Audi R8 GT! So let s see how these three incredible Audis stack up. Starting with the S1 Hoonitron, it s a car you would normally expect to see smashing out doughnuts rather than running in a straight line! However, it can still pack a mighty punch, with its two electric motors delivering 680hp and 640Nm of torque! What s more, even though it s packing a 50kWh battery, it s still fairly light, weighing in at 1, 620kg. In comparison, the RS e-tron GT is packing an 84kWh battery, and it tips the scales at 2, 345kg! However, just like the Hoonitron, it also has two electric motors, and these combine to put down 646hpp and 830Nm. Then finally we have the R8 GT. It comes equipped with a glorious 5. 2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 that can produce 620hp and 565Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed gearbox, and it s the lightest car here, tipping the scales at 1, 570kg.

Personally I really have no inherent promblems with EVs. If they could reduce the weight to be comparable to ICE cars, increase range to ICE levels or above and could all have a sound generator good enough to make it sound like an ICE car inside and outside then I would gladly daily drive an EV.

First 5mins Matt looked and sounded like Kenneth Williams from the Carry-On films! Proper camp, there, Matt! . Excellent race but I don't think Sebastian will let you beat him so easily in future. He was not a happy-camper there, and I feel he was regretting setting the whole race up!

Since the e-machines reach a maximum speed of 28, 000 rpm, the engineering team has defined a gear reduction of around 12: 1 for the drifts. Taking the losses into account, this results in around 3, 000 Nm of torque on each axle, i. e. 6, 000 Nm in total.

I don t think Ken would want the cars sitting in museums or be garage queens they need to be used and carry on the showmanship Ken Block entertained us all with, a true wheel man and artist behind any steering wheel and hand brake may his Legacy continue

An Englishman, German and Italian. Sounds like the beginning of a bad joke. What kills me is theirs guesses at distances between braking results. You could get a tape measure out and I bet the racing driver is within a few cm of 3 metres.

Blatantly Rigged by Audi. The TT was short shifting and coming off the gas on purpose. It wasnt even accelerating over the cones for the qtr mile. Not cool dont invite them on again please. The car community can smell a ruse a mile away.

times really have changed if this guy is the director of audi sport, i am not judging his work but he is defending electric cars, there were times when the audi director was choosing between a v8 and v10 for a new audi model.
reply

In the past race cars have always had a significant advantage in putting the power down to the wheels quickly and effectively but EV cars have eliminated that advantage completely.
Pretty cool of you think about it.

O man this was more an emotional race than anything else for me knowing the Legendary Ken Block had so many plans and the Audi brand was just developing a car for him. May they have not just an amazing but iconic vehicle ever

The hoonitron puts out 6000nm because ist spinns hat 28000rpm with an 12: 1, so that 600nm is the max of the motors but nit the real number, JP Performance released a video Yesterday where the enginier explained everything

These german engineers accent always sounds to me like these baddies in 70's film.
Now they just build, by far, the best cars overall (no, please Tesla's fan boys do not even answer this one, you'll be considered fools.

why does that skinny fella sit with that shit eating grin on his face when he wins, like he has achieved something more than always making sure he has the fastest car each race?
reply

The Audi dudi trying to subvert us with bEVs being emotional was a bit more obvious.
Little less promotional videos wouldn't hurt, Carwow. You're better than this.

reply

This video was so setup. No way the etron outbreaks the R8. Audi using carwow to promote their EV cars for sure on this one. I want to see this with yanni again.

You should have included Ken Block's old Hoonigan, the white double turbo Mustang.
I bet it would have won this drag easily and that Mustang was just epic.

I fell off from watching Ken Block's videos after my teenage. I am shell-shocked to know he is no more. RIP Ken. Hope you are drifting the chariot of God.

Electric CAR es Emotional? nice try as AUDI Promotion but there is nothing Emotional. Maybe Few Times at begin but not more- The Electric sound is boring
reply

Actually I saw all of these cars (the Hoonitron was in Hungary on the AMTS; there are two R8 GT in Budapest, and the RS e-tron GT is not as rare car)
reply

Short distance ok
Long distance
The R8 would win
Electric engine only good for short distance.
Electric cars only great as a track toy.
