The king of supercars for me was, is and always will be the Lamborghini Countach. True there are far faster cars but speed alone isn't what makes a supercar. What makes a supercar is the drama, emotion and sheer outlandishness. The F40 didn't shock the motoring world like the Countach did. When the Countach appeared it looked like aliens had landed. The shape took your breath away (remember, cars on the streets back then were things like Hillman Hunters, VW Beetles and Vauxhall Viva) The Miura was the most outrageous car up until that point but the Countach made it obsolete overnight. The F40 was just another low-slug Ferrari but the Countach was an instant icon.

I can't even begin to imagine how special it must feel to drive this. The F40 for me is one of the most iconic and timeless cars ever made and it will always hold a special place for me. The F50 and Enzo, amazing cars in their own right, neither are as special for me as the F40.
What's sad and telling at the same time about Matt's very small time of driving this is how good of a driving experience the cars of this era, not necessarily supercar level cars were compared to the mostly crap we have these days. The EV revolution will only make cars even more numb and emotionless and the value of cars from this era will continue to climb.

Absolutely pointless, people who can afford it though have inferiority complexes so they have vindicate themselves somehow. (remember that all those millio/billionaires who can afford it are first generation millionaires. Fair enough to them but they were probably raised in houses without mods and cons and when they earn dollar they want to splash on flash car. So they buy car designed in 60's but unfortunately they cannot buy memories. If someone bought it then that's a different story. For me car is a tool to take me from point A to B this one wouldn't. It's place is in a museum not a road.

Back in 2007 I saw and touched an F40. I had a try-out as car mechanic at a Ferrari/Maserati/Aston Martin dealer and at the end of the week, there was an F40 with 3000km on the odometer, including the original tyres and fluids from 1991. So after cleaning it, we had to push it from the wash box to the showroom. That was fun. Only time I enjoyed being near a Ferrari. Otherwise I don't care for the brand or the cars.

I was born in the late 70's so this is my dream car, the poster i had of this was the biggest one you could buy (3ft x 6ft) and i would just lay in my bed wondering what it would feel like to just drive around normal places in one where no body would normally see such a thing, is still do dream about it to this day

This was my dream car as a teenager and I remember when the posters adorned many a bedroom wall. It is a nice change to see something so raw compared to modern cars although it still amazes me you can buy a practical family saloon with better performance than an F40 for relatively little money these days.

A Tesla would probably beat this car but the feeling that this car will give you is untouchable by an electric car. The sound, vibration and all round roughness will soon be gone. It just goes to show no matter how fast a car is it doesn't mean its a fun driver's car. Petrol FTW

As far as looks, nothing beats the Ferrari 288 GTO. (It should have a racing harness. I had those automatic seat belts in my Mitsubishi Starion before blowing the top half of the engine. Interesting. Black on Black) Those motors in those automatic seat belts are notorious.

I remember the articles in the magazines when they came out and one article claims that someone bought one and had a room of their house built around it! I wonder if it still sits in that house or for how long it did before they bought something else.

I'm 46 from Portugal and that's my ONE car. Lot's of great machines but that's the one! I once touched one in Caramulo auto museum at 11 yo. I will sit in it soon. You look bigger near that car Matt. I'm only short by 2. 49 M to buy that car.

The 288 is the Italian muscle car, then the 40 took it to a whole 'nother level. The F40. almost perfect. The F50? Car perfection. The whole pedigree is amazing, especially to a guy who owns neither I will one day though

The first car poster I got as a child, the first car I drew as a child. and the first car toy I got as a child. No wonder this is my favourite Ferrari- the design can still put a lot of modern supercars to shame.

This will always be the ultimate supercar to me. I know its not the quickest thing out there any more but I think it still looks amazing and the way its so raw and stripped out still make it a really special thing.

It really is a great looking car and it's amazing to think that it's 500 lb less than your GT3RS. Now you should drive an F 50 because from what I hear it's an even better car

Mclaren F1 is the best ever. Naturally aspirated. Won Le Mans overall. It took a car with 4 turbos and about twice the hp to finally dethrone it from the high speed record.

This was my fantasy car as a kid. And I still tell people it's the best looking car ever. Got to sit in one couple weeks ago at Cars n Coffee. Maybe I can drive it one day.
