Mat has got his hands on one of the most luxurious cars he’s ever reviewed - the all-new Lexus LM! It’s an all-new MPV from Lexus, and Mat is about to find out if this luxurious people carrier has what it takes to compete with top-class saloons such as the Mercedes S-Class or BMW 7 Series. When it comes to the design, there isn’t much to say about the rear or sides. It comes with smatterings of chrome about the place, along with a rear spoiler, but otherwise, this people carrier is relatively boxy and nondescript. However, once you step around to the front, you’re greeted by Lexus’s trademark HUGE grille! This helps make it super imposing on the road, and it also comes flanked by high-tech matrix LED headlights. The interior quality for the driver is pretty decent. There’s lots of leather throughout the cabin, as well as a large infotainment screen and digital dial display. There’s a fairly decent amount of interior storage, too, and the seats are incredibly comfortable. However, step into the back and you'll find that comfort is absolutely next level. We’ve got our hands on the range-topping Takumi edition, which comes with just two business class-style seats. There’s a huge screen that spans the length of the cabin, coupled with several speakers, including two huge speakers built into each door! The seats can recline fully flat, window shades are built in, and there is absolutely loads of storage! This is truly the way to travel in first-class style on the road. When it comes to the engine choice, there’s only one. It’s a 2. 5-litre 4-cylinder engine that comes with a CVT gearbox as well as an electric motor. There is the option to add an additional electric motor to offer four-wheel drive, but interestingly, both the single motor and dual motor offer 250hp! The Lexus LM isn’t cheap. It starts from 90, 000, raising to 113, 000 for the range-topper! So is it worth it You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself! Lol, the whole fighter jet R&D related stuff is just a marketing campaign for the new Lexus LM. Not actually new tho, coz Toyota Alphard (the original model of this lux van family) and the little brother Velvire has been around for a decade, especially in Asian countries. Lexus should do one better than just take a product from their parent company.

This thing is made for high density low spend city driving. At reasonable California highway speed(around 70 miles an hour, this thing feels unstable and unsafe. It also has terrible crash protections. I remember a LM burned its owner to death because doors wouldn’t open after a low speed impact. I was at car and driver sponsored test drive of Alphard in OC, California, and most people commented how unstable and unsafe it felt at cornering and high speed

It’s one ugly looking thing. I wouldn’t be seen dead in anything that looked like that! It’s too boxy & American. Which has no place in Europe or Australia where I am for that matter.
Can we have something that actually looks half decent please. Everything at the moment looks so monotonous & boring!

Lexus finally gives us the one car they have withheld from the western markets. Now I hope people would actually buy it because this is just a different type of luxury to the S class or the massive SUVs. Hopefully the flood of imported Alphards are enough to convince people to get the LM

I can't really see the point of it. OK, you said that space in the back was nice, but can you really imagine any self respecting CEO preferring being chauffeured in a van rather that the high end BMW or Mercs that you mentioned No, me neither.

This new LM looks sooo much better than the 1st gen. Even Toyota Alphard/Vellfire looks way better overall while the 1st gen LM looks like some kind of Chinese designed minivan, not really Lexus's luxury minivan.

Recent Carwow videos are hard to concentrate to, because the camera just moves all around the place while Matt is pointing at things he’s talking about. A bit more steadier/wider shots would be appreciated.

10: 16 they lost the opportunity of making that a little fridge lol. I think for the price they could have done that.
Also, for the passenger seat in front, is one not able to recline That kind of sucks.

Very cool car, if you consider it's about providing the person in the back seat with the most private, sumptuous place to go about their business without drawing unnecessary attention to themselves.
reply

In Indonesia this kind of car are everywhere, (toyota Alphard or lexus LM) because you get a Toyota reliability while as luxurious and comfort as a Rolls Royce or even better in some ways
reply

Sometimes I forget that Lexis is still an active brand. They were always a bit niche compared to the German luxury brands, but I don't know when I last saw a new Lexus in the wild.
reply

Why are we calling it the Rolls-Royce minivan and not lexus built something better then Rolls Royce
Why do car journalist alway downplaying Lexus Or Japanese brands in general.

reply

This kinda car (LM, Alphard, Vellfire) is a status of wealth in Asia region. You can just assume if someone getting out off this car, they're probably a CEO or something
reply

Anyone shopping for an S Class is not looking at this massive ugly, underpowered, shit transmission thing unless your job is picking up people at the airport.

21: 38 oh no a cvt Not fun 22: 02 it’s because it’s a cvt lol
I still like Subarus but yea for those of us that drive Subaru we’re used to it

reply

They are brilliant. We’ve had them in Hk for years. But we have drivers here so it’s a pure passenger experience but we enjoy the V6 here.
reply

On my wish list!
However, it definitely needs some aftermarket wheels and some modifications to the engine. Then I will be truly happy.

reply

Add a shifting red light to the front of it and every time you start it up it says By your command
The Lexus Cylon and it is hideously ugly.

reply

Just when you thought Lexus grilles couldn't get worse
Why the HELL would someone want their car to look like an electric razor
