Peugeot s all-new family-friendly hatchback is now available, and Mat s about to find out whether it can compete with class-leaders like the Volkswagen Golf! Well for starters, it certainly looks the part! Whether you re checking out the cool light design around the back or the all-new grille and nose, there s no denying that the 308 is one good-looking car. It s also got the cool fang-like daytime running lights which we ve seen on similar new Peugeot releases. Take a step inside, and the quality continues! There s a cool swooping dash and high-quality materials throughout. The steering wheel alignment and digital dial set-up may not suit everyone's taste, but you won t hear anyone complaining that it s bland! There s a number of petrol, hybrid and Diesel engines to choose from. The range-topper is the 1. 6-litre turbo-hybrid, which is good for 225hp! However, they ll set you back a fair bit. While the entry-level model starts at 24, 000, the hybrids start at 33, 000!

Peugeot are making some of the best looking cars on the market. In fact it's hard to see how they could improve for the next generation. ( But I hope they can without going ridiculous. I would choose this car over all the similar alternatives. The latest Golf really does look ordinary and a bit stale already, particularly when viewed side by side with the id range
I'm not entirely convinced by the new badge though, which is nice enough to look at, but at first glance I thought it looked like the Proton badge.

1 of the better looking Peugeots I have seen for sometime now. I am still not convinced about hybrids though, how many people are there that would by a plugin hybrid to lower the VED (either new or used) and never charge the batteries? you then end up creating more C02 as the car is carrying around the the dead weight of the hybrid system, as the manufacturer calculates C02 with a charged hybrid system.

Not sold on those touch buttons for the infotainment system. I can see why they have done it as it looks minimalist, but as soon as you touch them they get covered in smudges and they don't actually add anything in terms of functionality. Aside from that, very interesting interior. Still don't like that small steering wheel though

The fuel cap is locked when the car is locked but the charging port flap is not. question. can you syphon electricity from a hybrid/electric car in the same way you can syphon petrol? Exactly. thus no need to keep it locked: ) Give it time though I am sure someone will figure out how to do it lol

Why is the badge mounted on the grill and the 308 badge above it? It s looks like the guy who whose job it was to affix them had one in each hand and kept tripping over just in front of the car each time whooooaaahp damn it happened again!

I think Golf has to be more generic at design on purpose because customers are used to it and like the design ( like the I phones design) and despite peugeot is more interesting to look at I don't think it will age as well as the golf

The Golf is far less likely to spring a nasty surprise on you every few months. I wonder how many PSA cars I'll have to buy to find one that doesn't. They promised they'd squashed their quality bugs in 2012, in 2016, in 2018.

The fact PSA, Renault and all the Japanese / Korean manufacturers are going out their way to make their cars look more Germanic, along with them all being compared to a Golf, tells you exactly which car you should buy.

Better than golf? I am sure that it is an equal competitor to the Audi A3, A-Class and BMW 1.
I think the Mazda 3 and Peugeot 308 offer more than the so-called German premium.

The petrol flap on our hybrid locks separately as the petrol tank is slightly pressurised and you have to hold the button for 5 seconds. It's to do with crash protection for the tank.
