How to Remove a STUCK Drum Brake

How to remove a stubborn brake drum. Watch how to remove a brake drum that is stuck on. I go through the steps so anyone can remove their drum brake. In this case the drum adjuster was stuck so first try to get it off by wiggling back and forth. Then spray penetrating oil to remove rust between the drum and the seat. Then hit it with a hammer hard. This should free the drum if it is just rusted on. If the drum doesn't come off, then your brakes are probably stuck open preventing the drum from coming off. If this is the case, cut or drill out the holding pins from the back (that hold the shoes in place) and remove the screws to the brake cylinder and then pull the drum off. Drum Brake Replacement

Look, be sensible, most mechanics aren't going to spend that much time putsing with an old drum at 110 an hour. Buy all your parts and cut the drum in half! If the possibility exists that the pads have ground down deep into the surface of the drum, your just spending more time than you have too trying to pull it off!

If you loosen the adjuster you should be able to use a bigger hammer and or pry the drum off. If you cannot get it off then do not drill out the pins or take the wheel cylinder bolts out. You do not have the skill to be working on brakes. Take it to a qualified mechanic.

i love this video. love laughing at kids. if he would have adjusted his parking brake back because it adjusts inward automatically. he could have got it off hrs before without taking off any parts he didnt need too. the hammering was spot on though.

Step 1. Wire brush the rust around the hub. 2. Release the brake shoe adjusters. 3. Hammer the drum a couple of times to break the corrosion seal and then spray it. Let it soak in and then pull it out. Ps. Don't use a claw hammer!

I mean he usually have good videos but this is the dumbest one of them all I was just saying what the f the whole time, if you don't just beat that thing with a hammer and stop tapping it like you a 80-year-old woman

You should have taken off the pice of rubber on the back of the drum backing plate and used the adjustment tooth gear to retract the shoes then use the hammer if it was stuck. And a bigger one 3-5 sledgehammer

i recently had a similar problem. i used a jack between the drum lip and the frame, along with some hammer love. after the jack idea it came off pretty easy. the emergency brakes were stuck

Wrong. Not a good vid. You did it the hard way. And btw, you hit those drums hard enough they break. I would have that drum off in no time. Without banging, drilling or heat. Try again.

you just could have twist them a quart turn with some pliers, instead of drilling them out. It is time for you to watch some proper you tube videos before you begin with any car job. ;-)
