In college, I was a chauffeur for a concierge service, where companies and rich folk ordered a driver for long drives. ie business trips and sometimes vacations. I had this one client, an architect, whom I drove quite some time. Who had an 850. It was a blast as it was a once in a lifetime experience. The guy was a bit of a self-centered prick but it was clear to me that one of the few things in life he cared most for other than himself was his 850. He drove the absolute bloody hell out of the car. He even pushed me to drive as fast as I dared possible. Just once I maxed it out and it was flat out one of my most memorable driving experiences. As per company protocol I couldn't drive faster than 20 miles above the speed limit otherwise, they wouldn't cover the costs of a ticket and legal stuff. This was around ten years ago and at that time I drove this guy, for like 15 months, he totaled his car 3 to 4 times. I heard he had totaled it around 8 times total. So there is only guessing how many times he'd done this. But his love for the car was so strong, he kept buying the car back from the insurance company. Have the damage repaired and drove the living hell out of it again. That's some serious commitment.

Whether you're idling in traffic or drifting the rear into a curb. I laughed at this, then I cried. Back when I had my E90 I clipped a curb on a roundabout drifting. Ended up needing to replace almost every component within 20 of the rear wheel. Control arms, axle, hub bearing, sway links, etc. The hardest hit was having to buy another Vossen wheel. A costly mistake, but hey, I drifted almost 3 continues circles around that narrow roundabout before I needed a tow home. I thought it looked cool. My wife didn't.

Yeah, the story of them basically having to steal the body molds and such from Lamborghini, because they went bankrupt, is pretty insane. They were afraid that the receivers would call them Lamborghini property, not BMW.

For the past few years by dream build has been to take a clean non running 8 series and drop a 2JZ in it to make a modern reliable Autobahn bomber that is more about grand touring and less about 0-60 times.

When the day comes you run out of content for Up To Speed, you will search YT comments for ideas and read this one about the 1991-1995 Mercedes-Benz 500 E/ E500 and wonder why you didn't think of it earlier.

I may not feel up to speed on BMW 8 SERIES after watching this, but at least you and Doug have taught me how to turn a paid sponsorship into an nostalgia bait field trip. MO ADS BABY

yall should do a video on affordable GT cars - i feel like everyone is fast to recommend a miata or mustang for a cheap sports car, but something more comfort oriented would be cool.
