Shameful behavior from GM Cars are great specifically when they cater to a specific market. A car built for everyone is a car built for no one. Classic big American cars are great precisely because they are unabashedly large and powerful, like Americans were and America was at the time. Italian cars like Alfa Romeo or Ferrari are spectacularly beautiful and nimble which reflects the Italian sensibility and history of artistic development. Old French Citroens and Puegots are unique and quirky, very comfortable and refined, often baffling to non French. And the same can be said for JDM cars as well, even Kei cars which are uniquely Japanese. These differences are what makes each culture great, I'd drive an old Alfa Romeo or Mustang any day over a brand new Corolla or ford Fusion. Personality and energy captivate consumers, hopefully automakers can relearn this

Actually, it's simple. While the land size of the Australian continent is big (almost as big as continental USA, population is just too small to be meaningful in terms of mass manufacturing. Entire population of Australia is 25 Million, which is about the size of greater NYC metropolitan area. It's not just Auto industry. any manufacturing that require economy of scale, is having tough time in Australia. While it may seem that GM's poor decisions blahblah caused Holden to disappear. really, it's not. Ford Mitsubishi Nissan Toyota all pulled out of Aussie manufacturing. It runs deeper than one executive's decision of one company.

Brands I want to see resurrected. 1: Holden2: OldsmobileSpecific cars i want resurrected. 1: Holden Maloo, whichever trim level came with a 580ish-hp supercharged V8. 2: Oldsmobile Aurora 4. 0, just the 4. 0 because while not officially recognized as a northstar, the 4. 0 has legit racing pedigree, is the most reliable northstar V8 GM ever made, and comes out of the box with more than 1hp per cubic inch (250hp, 260lb-ft, 244cubic inches. That, and i have a sentimental attachment to them because i got my license in a 2003 oldsmobile aurora 4. 0.

Holden was obviously an Aussie car company made for Aussies in Australia. The fact that GM couldnt see that the reason that Holden was so profitable was because it catered to a specific market was foolish. Profit margins arent the only thing that matter either, if GM really wanted to increase profits they shouldve compromised and allowed Holden to keep being Holden while at the same time making them produce more world cars at their factories. or better yet leave them alone and go find some cheap labor elsewhere.

They went down because they charge 45k for a rolling Sh1tbox of a car that falls apart and loses 1/5th of its value per year and is worthless in 6 years. Edit: Since we got access to quality brands like Mazda, Honda, and Toyota holden has taken a back seat. Japanese imports are cheaper and more reliable and most importantly hold value for longer.

RIP Holden, my favourite car company since I was a kid down here in AustraliaI really wish holden to be resurrected but the costs of building and people going with cheaper made cars. i. e Kia, Mazda, Hyundai. There's a rich history of Holden motorsport as well, it's sad to see it end. The v8 supercar series. Holden v Ford

Our government wanted to save face by destroying australian manufacturing by investing in local military submarine building. To budget 80 billion for the subs just under 300 mill in subsidies was denied to GM causing them to leave country. and costing our economy more. also the subs are now being built in France.

I'm German. I only even learned about Holden through Forza Horizon 3, but I learned to love that brand. They made so many bloody cool cars It really makes me sad that GM killed Holden off, but I hope that someday fellow Aussies and car enthusiasts like me get to see a comeback of it
