Is a Standalone ECU Worth It? This week on Money Pit, we re doing brain surgery! That s right, we re replacing the factory ECU with a Megasquirt Standalone ECU so we can take complete control over the engine and the way it runs. Then we ll take it to our friends at EF1 Tuning to develop a tune - can we make any more power with our new brain?

A few days ago I was just on the track with a gt86.
The car just finished its phase into turning it into a racecar thus we decided to do some shakedown the car.
The car started once, then after that it went into safety mode, it doesn't wanna start due to removing many electronic components like the abs sensor
Also changed the pedalbox to obp. Turning modern cars into racecars without an oem ecu that is designed for tuning is asking for a huge headache.
Without the standalone ecu your car is close to being useless. Spent the whole day trying to trick the system it didn't work lol. There's multiple things you can do with a standalone ecu it's definitely one of the things that's worth to buy for.

When doing wiring, please do it properly (like shown, make a diagram of all your mods, and try to get a fuse holder with the same kind of fuse your car uses.
The next guy who has to work on it will thank you. And you are most likely the next guy.

Great video. Note = Forced induction is a compression multiplier not a displacement multiplier. Very different. Also should be noted that the effect of static displacement and a forced induction variable compression are not equal.
