Throughout the Chevrolet C8 Corvette s release all the hype has circled around one major buzzword. mid engine. That s sorta old news but more recently, there s also been talks and leaked footage regarding the upcoming C8 Z06 using another very european technology, and that's a flat plane crank'' engine. That s really cool, so today I wanna take a look at the C8 and first, explain why mid engine is, well, better. I m sure you re thinking weight distribution -yes, but there s more science to it. And THEN, we ll dive into the difference between a normal cross plane crankshaft and a flat plane crank -and why the Corvette s move from one to the other- is a pretty big deal. It took them over 60 years to pull the trigger on this technology - let s find out why!

10: 23 The reason Italian supercars and American muscle cars sound so different is not because of the freaking crankshaft. idiot. They sound different because the Italians tend to use 8-12 cylinder, HIGH revving, smaller-displacement engines while the American cars use large bore, large displacement engines with big cam(s. Think about the difference between the sound of a 1800cc Harley Davidson V-Twin and a 12k RPM, 600cc, 4 cylinder Japanese, crotch rocket. You guys are dumb.

I am not american but american v8's sound way better than europeans v8's. The american v8 is the classic v8 and it's how everyone should know a v8 not the ferraris vot the lambo's, don't get me wrong they are good cars they sound good and they are in some ways a bit better than american cars but nothing sunds like an american v8. That's the sound everyone should know comes from a v8.

The maximum torque a 5. 5 Liter naturally aspirated V8 could theoretically make is 495 lb ft. However, that theoretical number would be extremely difficult and expensive to achieve. It is much more likely that the normally aspirated C8 Z06 would only have 470 lb ft. Would you still buy a Z06 if it had about the same torque as a base model Stingray?

To much power on a flatplane crank makes more vibration, vibration equals broken parts. Unless properly balanced. Which we know a production car will not be perfect. So machine shops will be thanking Chevy for all the work coming there way

almost every American V-8 has a cross-plane crankshaft? More like almost every production V-8 in the entire world that isn't a Ferrari or McLaren engine. And doesn't the Voodoo engine still have a burble even though it's flat-plane?

I don't typically comment on videos but your crew deserves recognition on that slick graphic explaining flatplane and crossplane crank shafts. I'm definitely referencing your video when trying to explain it to friends and family.

After chaos gets released, PLEASE do an episode on that car as well. As a greek we never had a real car brand like every other country. We greeks are proud of that upcoming car, and we will be even more proud if it makes it here

Was Jeremiah sitting on a Yamaha R1 when he shouted crankshafts? That's meta. Funny how big-bang crossplane engines are getting so popular in motorcycle racing while the flat plane is where it's at in car racing.

3: 45 Just want to point out corvettes have transaxles, so as far as I know the transmission actually moved forward? Could be wrong on that, but if not just wanted to put that out there
