Hi Scotty. I'm not sure how Subaru America produces/sell their cars in the USA. I don't know if, like Honda and Toyota, they have manufacturing plants there because I really don't understand the bad reputation this brand gets in your country. From memory, I think since 2010 or there abouts, Toyota bought Fuji Heavy Industries which is the company that manufactures Subarus in Japan. Not long after that they released the BRZ or AE86 (or yet Toyota GT86 in the USA market) and myself as a customer who had owned Subaru cars previously, their design changed drastically. A 2014 Subaru Legacy, in my opinion, looks like a Toyota Camry. Bulky, boring and really designed as a family car. I would then think that some of that Toyota quality you prise them some much for, would have translated onto the newer Subaru models. In saying that, I live in New Zealand and here we get JDM spec japanese cars. Back in 2007 I owned a 2001 Subaru Legacy B4 RSK, 2. 0L/Twin turbo and basically a more luxurious WRX STi in a way when it comes to drivetrain (not the engine. I went to own it for 6 years and in that time the only parts I had to change/replace other than the usual maintenance stuff was a knock sensor and two rubber mounts that held the rear differential assembly, that's it Was a manual gearbox model, good fuel economy if you know how to drive them b ut also has the 280HP if you want it. After that, in 2015 I owned a 2007 Subaru Legacy Spec-B Wagon 2. 0L/Single turbo/Automatic transmission. Not as fun as the other one but again a good car. I owned it for 4 years and sold it mid last year (2019. Nothing spent on it other than a good set of tyres which I replaced for personal prefference. The Toyo set that came with it was perfectly fine just not as confortable as say a Bridgestone or Goodyear. I guess I do understand that you talk from experience and it's mostly (if not all) based in the USA market but in other countries we experience different feedbacks for the same product. Here everybody buys a Ford Ranger over a Toyota Hilux (Tacoma. Not because of only price or reliability but because Toyota gained a reputation for not being that safe of a car. Just watch the moose test videos of the Hilux to understand what I mean. Plus all the cases in your country of Toyotas having accelerators stuck or airbags going off and so forth. Not to say that it doesn't happen to other brands but it is how thay deal with the issue that counts. Love your videos anyway. Cheers

not true, there are usually at least 1-2 good specific companies on most specific cars that will tune your car to its maximum potential, this isnt some half baked scammer that scotty claims. They actually do improve gas/power depending on the car even the newer ones still do not perfect the fuel/air ratios of most modern today cars. Turbos benefit the most from it making usually 40-100whp+ reliable. Its not always black and white, i did save more gas on my last car which in the end it paid for itself, but if you mash the throttle for that extra power of course youre going to get worse gas mileage. For N/A cars it depends mostly on your displacement, usually around 8 - 25whp on tune alone with no mods. Its actually pretty dumb if you do not tune your car too if you put on bolt ons cause youre engine will run too lean which is not good. My N/A car alone makes 50whp+ with bolt ons and tune.

Kinda agree I couldnt find a stock Subaru wrx so I bought one that runs on e85, Cobb software and many other goodies. The gas goes quick but its fun as hell. It shoots flames and 0-60 is like 4 ish seconds. Certainly not as reliable as a stock one. Honestly if you want to mod a car go for light upgrades like exhaust and suspension. Any engine mods will decrease the life of your car unless you got a bunch of money to fork out. Im most likely gonna de-tune the e85 gas because its currently being daily driven so not a great choice of gas because not a lot of stations carry e85 and I get horrible gas mileage.

My 84 Toyota pickup stock came with the 22r carbureted engine not much for hp or torque, it ran but not great. First think I did was modify it. well sort of I used Toyota factory parts, I converted it to EFI. Using all factory parts from the fuel pump to the engine for the conversion, runs great, no tuner mods here. Off road not to big with a V6, 4x4 Tacoma all the way. If you get a TRD package the rear differential has an electric locker, there awesome. I put the hole rear end in my 84 just to have extra traction off road.

First topic reminded me of my Dad's view on kids trying to better, what had been engineered. He'd been a mechanic all his life. When computers were about to come on the scene, he turned the training down because he was about 2 years from retiring anyway. His remark about the computer systems was. ''Let me see one of them computer technician mechanics go out into a muddy field where one won't start & figure out how to get it running enough to get it back to his computer station. Never mind Never forget my dad taking it out one night them screaming about how he had to drive in reverse like 10 miles to get back home after something had happen to the transmission and mechanics telling him they had never seen abuse like that before in their lives LOLI lucked out as my brothers had drove it before I did so all I had to say was, That's the way I got it and I don't know nothing LOL

Vws are not that hard to work on. Certainly no harder than any other car year by year. Any mechanic of any skill level at all should have no problem with a 2003 golf. You can buy the same parts online as are available in Europe. This isn't 2003 anymore. We have this thing, the internet where every car ever made has nearly step by step info on almost every possible job. If your skill level has maxxed out at late 90s Toyota, then I'm not sure what to say.

I dislike the argument Scotty and many others make that goes ''company x has the best engineers and they know what they're doing'' etc. Yes they may know what they are doing but they also have to design for the motor to pass emissions and god knows what other regulations. There are people outside the honda factory that are just as smart and with less restrictions. So if you want to get an extra 10 hp at the expense of more emissions so be it.

5: 33 To the person who bought a corporate leased fleet car. Change that fluid when you buy any fleet leases vehicle. I know from first hand knowledge that these fleet companies rarely authorize transmission fluid changes while they are managing the maintenance of a fleet vehicle. I had a company vehicle for over 150, 000 mile that they never authorized a transmission fluid change on and they've done the same with other vehicles assigned to me.
