The Truth About Cars that Burn Oil Josh Redman: Yepmy 2008 Scion tC burns exactly 1 quart every 1300 miles. .wanna know how I know? So I get a letter from Scion telling me I need to bring my car to a dealership and have them inspect my engine. OK, cool. Its something about excessive oil consumption. And in the letter it stated that if my car burns more than a quart in less than 1300 miles, my vehicle was eligible for a new engine. So I take my car in, they top of the oil ( it was quite low ) and put tamper proof tape on all the possible ways to remove engine oil. They tell me to drive 1100 to 1300 miles and return so they can check the oil level. I did drive exactly 1300 miles. When they did check the oil level after 1300 miles, the results were that I was one quart low. WOW cool. I get a new engine. not. The service adviser at the dealership tells me it must be MORE than one quart. UUmmmm yeahhhhhhhh. I think I smell a ratIt BS because several times Ive topped off my oil, drove 1300 miles, checked the oil. Then added MORE than one quart. WTFOh well, the engine runs great as long as I keep adding that oil

My friend asked me to do oil change on his 2019 chevy equinox 2. 0 turbo so I was like what you just got the car he said the oil maintenance light turned on so then a week later he said would you do it on my brothers car 2019 Chevy Cruze 2. 0 turbo engine so I was like ok let me see whats the mileage on the other one he said 6k or 7k i dont know So then I want to his home I realized they both have turbocharged engine the same engine same oil filter and 0w20 engine So I went I got synthetic oil and oil filter I replaced on both cars then after a month enough he calls me again He says the old maintenance light came on I was like what the heck we just changed the oil. the story is I knew those cars are burning Oil I took out 5 quarts of oil from both engines And I added 4. 5 court in each engine so please dont tell people if your engine is burning oil its fine no its not there has to be something wrong with engine lower piston rings that hold the oil or the turbo charger is consuming oil

Scott I always find myself looking at cars. Then I have a day like today where I had my car so rigged up I had people videoing me as I drive. I needed a stove, came across a good deal on a tool box. What to do? Most would make 2 trips not me, I put the toolbox in the back seat couldnt close the door, not to worry I have to use the door handle to attach the wratchet straps to hold the stove on the rear of the car on my hitch haul cargo rack. On top the tool box I had a shrimping net. Quite the sight. I want a nice car but I know I would be too restricted worrying about damaging it. So as long as this car runs good it is just going to keep on getting uglier.

Scotty, my 2012 diesel Toyota Rav4 manual has started spitting out coolant from the coolant vessel cap. Coolant is below minimum mark, its not overheating as temperature needle stays halfway. Drives fine, tried new genuine Toyota coolant cap. Still spits out coolant. Cars only done 45k miles, fully servicedIt spits out about an eggcup full on hour long journeys. Makes a mess of the area under the bonnet. Can you help please? No grey smoke or sludge in top of the engine. I look after my car very well. Find you videos very interesting.

I wouldnt want a car that burns that much oil, its a sign the rings arent any good. A portion of fuel can get past the rings mixing with the oil, and in turn needs changed more often. Thats a lot of cost for oil, and isnt good on the engine for lubrication. At the cost of oil now days, in a year or two you could of had the engine repaired preventing abnormal wear. Otherwise, by adding that much oil all the time, you never change the oil saving on money, but then hows that good for a engine?

I would say I disagree with the statement of Volvos being money pits. Ive had friends with them and they loved them. Granted, they wrecked them because they dont know how to drive to save their lives, but they got many trouble free years out of them. The most expensive repair one had to do was to his S60s Catalytic Converter. I myself am currently fixing up a 2000 S80 T6 twin turbo and have only spent 1, 900 doing it myself. It runs great and is real fun to drive.

I have an 02 Maxima thats burned about a quart of oil every 1k miles since I bought it at 55k miles. I now have 180k miles on it and its still running perfect. Its never, not even once, had a check engine light and Ive never had any problem with the cat. Ive only replaced the spark plugs twice in that time. I use Castrol GTX High Mileage 10W-40 as it burns that the slowest. As a matter of fact I might even be down to a quart every 1500 miles now.

Scotty, My brother recently bought a 2008 Lexus IS250 with 108k miles. It drives like a dream, and I did an oil change on it to have piece of mind that it was done correctly. I was wondering if theres any other simple maintenance things we can do at this mileage. Spark plugs, coolant drain/fill, transmission drain/fill? I read that these cars have potential problems with carbon build up. Any concerns with this?

Man talking about blown head gaskets. I had a 93 Pontiac Grand Am that I purchased for 1000 and had 80, 000 miles and had a cracked engine block and leaked coolant in one of the spark plug sockets so the thing was only running on there pistons since it was misfiring like crazy. Haha. That car didnt even hit 95, 000 miles before the engine before it took a dump. That car had so many electrical issues

Its been a long time since I had to replace brakes on 1994 Mazda Miata. But I believe on those generation Miata there is a bolt you have to remove for the rear caliper that exposes the screw that will retract the brake piston in. If the mechanic uses a tool to compress the brake piston then it will be damage. That is the reason after the rear brake job that the parking brake doesnt work.
