Heres Why American Car Makers Will Go Bankrupt Walter Grace: The other side of the coin with these pick up trucks is that they are priced so high most trades people cant afford them. Options like heated and cooled leather seats, cameras all over the place, trailer pro back up assist, and the like might help those who normally wouldnt be able to drive them who have large sums of money on them. But it just prices them out of the market for everyone else. Its an easy profit margin for the auto makers right now. It also cost a lot more to design a car then it does a pick up truck.

I have to wonder at the thinking of American car company executives. Seriously, all they have to do is look back at history -- and all within living memory, so it's not like it's ancient history. We can see from this that Americans do love their giant, fuel-thirsty cars -- when gas is cheap. In the 1960s, and early '70s, people were buying those giant, V8-powered full-size turnpike cruisers (and station wagons built on the same chassis. Then the fuel crisis of the '70s came along, and suddenly, everyone started switching over to compact cars powered by economical 4 cylinders. It happened again in the '90s; fuel got cheap, and again, American drivers overwhelmingly preferred big, spacious, family-sized vehicles -- this time SUVs. Then came the recession of 2008, and gas went up at the same time as most people's disposable income went down, and smaller, more economical cars became popular again. We've seen this happen before, so the decision to put ALL their eggs in the full-size truck and SUV basket makes me shake my head.

Heres why I think scotty is wrong: The new turbo diesel 3. 0 thats going to be put in the 2022 Colorado and new this year in 2020 Silverado is estamated at 36 mpg with 278 hp and 400+ lb of torque. Yes Gm suffers from lack of quality but so does most other brands and Tech is getting damn good in power trains. His favorite brand (Toyota) has made some retarded decisions regarding economy and pricing. Scotty is preaching rather than informing. Gm and ford are modeling their lineups after what they are estimating for the next 10-15 years. Yes fuel prices will fluctuate but the government still continue to subsidize if they sell more trucks if it meets demand, therefore acting as a perpetual circle. This is way more complex then just stating heres why GM will go out of business. lol rediculous. Bailouts bro.

Gas being a limited source is actually wrong. It does not take millions of years to make oil. A company that experimented with making oil using the same conditions oil is found in the ground times 2 aka 2 times the heat and pressure using discarded turkey and chicken parts, made biodiesel in 3 hours. EPA shut them down because the oil companies lined their pockets to do so. Now the new thing is hydrothermal oil. Just search this here on youtube. Question: if oil is limited, how come with all the oil we take from the middle east the oil wells over there still overflow? It's because oil is actually a mineral not a fossil fuel. So the earth constantly makes it so the supply is endless. Fossil fuels was an idea to make trillions and it worked because everyone bought it.

The price of gas going up over a long period of time is really a symptom of inflation, the value of the currency going down. We use a Federal Reserve Note a fiat currency, not a dollar and not money. During the energy crisis of the 70s when gas prices rose greatly and gas was rationed to drivers on an every other day basis you could get great deals on trucks and large 8 cyl. luxomobiles. People quickly migrated to more fuel efficient machines People realized they wanted more cash in their pockets rather than the big vehicles.

Hey Scotty, I have a 2002 Sienna and shes had a few problems starting up a few times every few months. At first I thought it mightve been the alternator or the starter (not really knowing anything about cars, and after taking it to a shop they said everything is good, transmission and engine are good too. There is an EVAP code from a check engine light, but the mechanic said that wouldnt be causing it. What do you think? PS. Love your videos and enthusiasm even though Im not very educated on auto stuff

Another answer to the guy's question at 3: 24 would be to sell or trade the Malibu for a 1993 Buick Regal. Those things are fast They are fast STOCK. From the factory they had superchargers and let me tell you: they are sleeper cars, they wreck mustangs and Camaros. You gotta get the manual transmission on them. It has a Supercharged 3. 6L V6 and manual transmission. Scotty you can check this out too if you'd like. There's even a guy on YouTube that has proof that they are faster than mustangs.

American automakers basically eliminated the mid-size pickup truck in favor of crossovers. Yes, they are trying to make full-size pickups more fuel efficient, but it doesn't come close. Mid-size is a great balance between utility (hauling and towing) and fuel economy if you use a truck as a daily driver. Now, the option only exists among imports, and some of them aren't that great. Ford made the Mazda B-series (same truck, different trim plates, which was a fantastic truck. I miss it.

Scotty, you seem bias and sound like my dad when it comes to Toyota can do no wrong. Toyotas do have issues like any other vehicle and our local Toyota Stealership is a bunch of pius thieves. Without conscious they have mercilessly fleeced my elderly parents out of thousands of dollars in questionable repairs. I know its just that one stealership however leaves a bad taste in my mouth for Toyota. My parents exclusively go to the Stealership for ALL of their maintenance.

remember how back in the day you could buy a chevy s10 for 500-1000 more than a cavilier the truck's roof would come up to your shoulder you could touch the bottom of the bed from outside of the truck and you got practically 30mpg. i'll admit it does need to be a bit bigger for safety but not that much and with today's technology they should be able to get 36 out of a 4 cylinder hooked up to a 6 speed if not they're just not trying.
