Mid Hants Railway (England) Autumn Steam Gala 2020 - 4K

Well done to the Mid Hants for being brave enough to put on a -Steam Gala Event- in these difficult times. The event was a loose recreation of the days of the -Pines Express-, when it ran between Manchester and Bournemouth via the legendary Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway from Bath Green Park to Bournemouth West. Participant numbers were severely restricted to only 1500 over the three day event to comply with Covid regulations. I made the mistake of waiting a day or two to buy my ticket, only to discover when I did try, that they-d all been sold, naturally I was disappointed. I was in the area on the Saturday afternoon so I decided to pop along and take a few lineside shots. I was glad I did, I hadn-t realised just how much I-d missed steam, it was strange to see the almost deserted platforms, with none of the hubbub normally associated with Gala events, a small number of people who like myself had failed to buy one of the sought after tickets could be found along the lineside hoping to get a few shots of the action. As it turned out, it was well worth the effort and I hope you enjoy this video including bonus shots of the old and new bridges at Alton. Locomotives featured: - LMS 'Jubilee' Class - No. 45596 Bahamas LSWR S15 Class - No. 506 BR Standard Class 4 - No. 76017 BR Standard Class 2MT Tank - No. 41312 S&DJR 7F Class - No. 53808 Filmed at the Mid Hants Railway (England) on 17th October 2020

Tim, over the last couple of days I have seen other videos from enthusiasts following this event. I must say that your compilation, especially the initial 10 minutes was so clear, detailed and bright. Some of the trilling birdsong may have sounded more likely to have emerged from the antipodes, but the sights and sounds of the preserved stock and visiting locos was excellent in every regard. Thank you for the detailed focus on the bridge replacement works, too.
Despite the restrictions on numbers able to travel on this event, I am sure the visit was worthwhile for visitors and hopefully for the supporters and contributors to the railway. Your video and stills certainly brought it to life for those unable to attend. Peter

As always an excellent video from you. The 'gripe' i have is the phrase -In these difficult times- The times are only as 'difficult' as people allow them to be! This SCAMdemic has gone on for 8 months +! and i have YET to see streets of dead bodies, hospitals crammed with patients and any REAL measures taken, as would be the case in a REAL pandemic!

Tim, I have a copy of the -Ian Allan ABC of British Railway Locomotives- - 1962/1963. I have an underline for locomotive 41312 and that would have been seen passing Byfleet & New Haw Station circa 1963. Happy days as a young train spotter!
