Three legendary heavy freight engines featured at the same event - S&DJR 7F 2-8-0 No. 53808, GWR 28xx Class No. 2857 and LMS 8F No. 48305 plus two popular Southern Region locomotives - Schools Class 4-4-0 No 925 Cheltenham and Ex-LSWR S15 Class No. 506 - also in light steam was ex LMS Ivatt Class 2 2-6-2T No. 41312. We start early on a bright, but chilly morning at Ropley MPD, the cold air exaggerates the steam rising from the locomotives as they are readied for the busy day ahead. The scene could be straight out of the mid-fifties. The engines set off singularly or in pairs to Alton, Alresford and Ropley where their rakes of coaches had been stabled overnight. We see the first service trains arrive and depart from Ropley station before making our way to Northside Lane to watch trains on the gradient between Alresford and Ropley. We return to Ropley and board a train to Alton where we watch the locomotive run round its train for the return trip as far as Medstead and Four Marks to take a ride on a Wickham Trolley, after which we join a service train to Alresford just in time to catch the last train of the day back to Ropley to witness my personal favourite sights of the day as the locomotives return to the sheds. There is nothing quite as evocative as a yard full of working engines bathed in the late evening sunshine. Please join me for an excellent day at the Watercress Line. Hi Tim from -Aussie- No. 3 in the Comments column! As usual a great day at MHR caught on your camera. Well edited again. Hope to see you in September and a possible visit to the -Watercress- Line. Cheers from a very cold Menzies Creek - Puf'n Pete.

Another good one Tim! Thanks again for the informative captions and it was nice to see snippets of the behind the scenes labour intensive work that these wonderful beasts demand.

7: 05 Loco 41312 - Just two numbers off being a -palindrome, - which reads the same, forward or backward. (if the engine number was 41314.

Excellent Tim. I used to sit and watch the comings and goings from 4A shed at 17A, Derby, fascinating.
