NEED AN EXPLAINATION ABOUT ITALIAN TRAINS!
Italian trains are wonderful, really, they are classic french trains but witg some more comfort. ok, right?
No!
Italians railways suck, that's the problem, recently they got better and better in Veneto but outside north Italia(Lombardia sucks) they god bad.
In many part of south Italia the speed is 160kmh, normally 205kmh.
Being late is common.
But many pros is true and we dont see them: we got an huge space for bikes, wc is awesome autoclean, seats are really comfortable.
But what you hear is true. not SO vad but true!

Took the Rome to Palermo route last year. Brilliant. We had a day in Rome with a nice evening meal then took the train. Slept and travelled, so no time wasted. The 3 berth cabins were all sold out, so the 4 berth meant I had to share. Crossing the Messina straits at dawn was special. Just remember to take some food and drink as breakfast is limited. Clean, efficient, and on time. Do it before they build the bridge between the mainland and Sicily.

Amazing engineering. Rome central is one of the best stations in Europe. Modern huge. the train both color scheme external and interior looks great. The welcome kit. Even in flights we dont get these days. Highlight is the ferry. What an experience. Superb. Trains in the ferry being pulled out. So exciting to see. Felt as if I travelled. Thank u for the coverage. Great job.

The only complaint I had while using the trains in Italy was the lack of handicapped accommodation. My husband has difficulty walking and there were countless times when to cross from one track to the other you had to go down stairs with luggage and then up stairs to the platform. No ramps, no elevators that were working at Roma Termini. This was 2017z

As an italian it's easy to complain about one thing or another of our train system, and to be honest the more you go south the worse it gets as far as connections, and sometimes trains in lombardy (Trenord) are really smelly with no air conditioning and stuff like that.
But it's nice to see how much a foreigner appreciates it

I traveled so many times with this train when I was a young guy. I'm originated from Siracusa, but at that time I was studying at the University in the north of Italy. Train looks much better now, very modern and fashion. I really miss it. I've promised to myself to travel again with it my child and wife, soon or later.

I've been on two overnight trains from Paris to Rome chaperoning two school trips. I found the crew totally missing. No one came to help us set up the sheets. This was particularly problematic for the lower bunk which needs to somehow be pulled out a bit. No freebies, in a couchette with 6 beds.

Ohh No fair. First it was delayed from 11pm to 2am at Salerno. I was on the Notte from Naples to Catania and I was told I could not leave the train while on the Ferry: -( Was my only complaint in my 10 days in Italy though: -D
The Train you got was much nicer than the one I was on.

7: 12 that-s like borderline high speed rail already! 200 km/h is the minimum speed for high speed rail.
1; 28 am in my country. Kept awake by some red flags of termite infestation. One of them is a wing on my bed. Imagine waking up to a queen termite crawling all over your face.

I made that same trip in Dec 1979, but the train was so full due to Xmas we sat on the floor of the isle entire way. Thats ok when you are 20, i would prefer to do as you did in this vid. We crossed the straits of Messina at night, it was fun and beautiful. Thanks for the post.

So glad I came across this, I'll be travelling from Scotland to Italy (Rome) and of course Sicily, visiting several cities in Europe by Interrail 1 month train pass, this will be in my itinerary, thanks for the video, appreciated.

Very cool. My dad and I took an overnight roomette coach from Hamburg to Copenhagen using a ferry back in 1980. I'll never forget waking up just in time to see the ferry docking in Denmark and the coaches being unloaded.

Very nice trip there was another ferry training between Germany to Denmark but unfortunately that's been rerouted and doesn't go on ferry anymore so I believe this is the only rail ferry serving europe now

I can confirm the impressions. These berths are way more comfy than those on duty with NJ's.
Travellers on a budget don't necessarily need an upgrade. Glad you enjoyed 'u ferrabottu.

Videos and information was great. But the subtitles need to be there for some more time. Quickly readings mars the joy of watching videos raptly.

I am a Japanese railfan. I wish to experience this wonderful journey of overnight train to cross the strait by the ferry and have beautiful scenery!

many years ago, we took this sleeper from Roma - Palermo, great memories. Alas back with Alitalia Palermo-Roma-Amsterdam because of a family illness.

Would be interesting to have a tunnel like the EuroTunnel to conect mainland and the island. It would make more competitive against planes.
reply

I still remember the train boarding the boat when I was four years old.
It was in 1965.
I saw the railway tracks on the boat.

If someone has problems with loose armrests: stick a slim book or something like that between it and the sofa, so it stays up!
reply

I'll be doing the same route inly by day, departure is at 7. 40am and arrival is at 17. 00pm, probably a suicide
reply

Probably the flavor of the orange juice wasn't so great since you believed it was orange while it was peach juice! -
reply

Seems like, since the MU coach is already on the boat anyway, they could just fire it up to get the train on/off?

loved this video. How influencers should be. Quiet & informative. Less Kim Kardashian, more Simply Railway.

Once you could go from London to Paris in a sleeper. The Night Ferry it was called. Ended in the 1960s.
