Howdy folks, Welcome to this trip report in the heart of Alaska onboard the Aurora Winter Train! A 12 hour journey in the pure Alaskan wilderness. If you haven't already, I highly suggest watching the Denali Star video FIRST before watching this one. You can learn more details and history of the Alaska Railroad and compare winter and summer trips. Here's the

Greetings from Fairbanks Alaska! Just watched both of your videos from our great state. We truly love our train and take great pride in it! I however have only ridden the train from Anchorage to Seward and back, which from what I hear is the best part of the whole line. If you decide to come up and visit again, I would suggest that route in the summer and definitely get the Gold Star Ticket for the dome car. its worth it on that route. The train stays in seward for 4 hours before it returns. you can tour the town or take one of the bay cruises. The aurora train is on my bucket list. thanks for the videos!

What a fantastic treat, thanks! Having lived in Anchorage for almost 20 years, I never had the opportunity to take the Alaska Railroad between ANC/FAI during either the winter or summer, but I did get to see Mt. Mckinley(Denali) often either from my home or flying between ANCFAI. You can't beat Alaska for the natural beauty whether summer time or winter and though I got to visit many places there taking the Alaska RR was a limited adventure! Thanks again for the memories!

Absolutely loved that you decided to speak on this video. I understand the difficulties of doing a vocal video that might disturb other travellers. But trying to read your commentary and enjoy the views are really difficult and you miss alot of the scenery by trying to read your narrative before it goes of the screen. Maybeyou could do voice over on your videos when editing. But Absolutely love your videos and honesty thank you xxxxx

That was a great video. I was born in Fairbanks and I'm still here. In 1977, I was 4, My Grandma and I did the Fairbanks to Denali round trip, I remember looking for flat pennies while we waited for the north bound train and the two tunnels. My Grandma took a picture of my walking to the Mckinely station and she painted it, she was a great artist, and she had it on her wall from '78 till '03 and now it's on mine.

This was a great video! I am going to Alaska in March and was considering taking the winter train. This was so informative, exactly what I was looking for! You've helped me make up my mind, I'm excited to experience this journey.
I do have a question. I am taking the northbound trip, Anchorage to Fairbanks. Is there one side of the train that has better views of the scenery for the majority of the time?

My personal warning oh if the train is not somehow special inside, I may as well go to a diner in a small town. Against who airplane flights, planes have to be special in one way or another but definitely different from and aluminum tube with seats which is what an airplane is. Airplanes are not easy to get on and the American security checks are really a pain,

Amazing trip its good to see Alaska in winter it looks so different to the summer but very beautiful seeing the winter landscape of valleys moutains forests and frozen lakes almost like a fairytale. Also it must be more peaceful as there was much less people than last time so you can fully enjoy the experience!

Outstanding video, very informative, beautiful footage. Stunning winter wonderland. Only one thing that would beat that trip if we were fortunate enough to see the Northern Lights over Denali. I would love to experience this train ride. I have never seen so much snow in my life. Excellent video

Great video! I would like to make a correction regarding the Parks Highway - it is the newest and probably the shortest, but not the only highway between Anchorage and Fairbanks. Great information otherwise. I will need to check out the trip you did in late summer/early fall.

I've enjoyed the winter journeys on the Canadian ViaRail new sleeper car and also on the Amtrak Empire Builder (I recommend a sleeper on the north side of the train, left side to Chicago, right side to Seattle, so lovely to watch the Izaak Walton Inn staff greet the train.

nice. I wish there was a dome or outdoor viewing platform (even between coaches) to take pics without the glare of the window. I saw you opened/pulled down a window at one point. Do all of the windows open? Did any employees get angry that you opened a window?

I'm dying to move to Alaska, and so I'm tracking down all the info I can get. This video is AWESOME! Visually stunning, but also, I love how your passion for trains and this ride comes through in your captions. Well done!

Actually I do remember folks saying that they like Zero degrees Fahrenheit. -17 Celcius. Tires are NOT frozen squares. Fuel does NOT turn to GEL. now Minus 50 Fahrenheit things stop working. THAT IS COLD.

I first saw the Alaskan railroad watching people who live off-grid near Talkeetna taking the train into town for supplies and a fresh shower, and they paid dearly to just ride in the baggage car.

Only Problem With Your Video Is Every time You Switch To A Different Clip, Or Next Loop It Caused A Blurred Effect For 5 Seconds Or More.
This Was Very Irritating & painful For The Vision.

I took the Seward to Anchorage train in 2015. It's definitely something to do once in your life. Alaska is my favorite place on earth I've never seen anything like it anywhere else.

I just watched the September Denali Train trip. It was beautiful. This one is stunning as well. The winter season has its own beauty. Sometimes deadly but still beautiful. Thank you

We have to beg the sun to show up gentlely, otherwise, he may not pop up. He even knows sometimes we need him right at the moment, but he will disappear after having shown up regulary.

I don't think it's sanitary to be washing your hand under the water then touching the paper towels - but not using them. The next user will find them damp where you've touched them.

I really enjoyed this video. Its my first time watching your videos. Alaska is one of my favourite countries and I'd love to visit some time, but this will do for now -
reply

I just love your enthusiasm. And especially that you leave your captions up long enough for people to actually read them. Definitely going to do this some day soon! Bravo!

I hope Alaska never changes their iconic logo. from your ticket to the cup of orange juice, the wordmark easily conveys Alaska's grandeur and heritage. Amazing trip!
reply

There are 2 levels, normal seating where you pay for everything, and gold which provides breakfast, lunch, and supper which was paid for with that gold ticket.

I-m curious to know, what do you do when you reach your final destination? Do you plan another trip from that destination or you fly back to your home base?
reply

This is fantastic! Thank you so much for your time and effort to share this video. This has been incredibly helpful as I plan a trip for my family.

So as you can see, I recently introduce a new intro/conclusion style.
Do you like it? I shot quite a lot video recently with that style!

reply

Your videos are so misleading he said they stop in towns but your saying they don-t you should probably fact check your self

Four below in December isn't cold for Fairbanks, that's for sure. The coldest I saw was 58 below. I was in a tent- the Army insisted.

After watching your two videos of the journey, I decided to book a trip when I visit Alaska in September 2023 can't wait

When i see the Alaska railroad Mac up in person the Mac engines makes a different sound from the other Mac in the United states
reply

Thank you for another fantastic video! Yet again you got lucky with the weather! Well done! Simply enjoyable this train trip! ---
reply

Do you know why they used three engines on that train? For having a backup in the wilderness, two would have been enough )
reply

There was a point where it occurred to me id love to have a room with this floor to ceiling 360 degrees of awsome
reply

Great video, I loved every minute of it. I'm now looking for 'Simply Railway' videos of Canadian Rail travel.
