I enjoy your videos. You always seem enthusiastic when presenting the material.
You might like this bit of trivia. Hope it is new to you. Do you know of the song -The City Of New Orleans-? It is about one of America's 'city' trains from the past. It has been performed by several artists, including Arlo Guthrie (1972. The story behind the song is what I think might interest you. It came from an actual train ride. It was also part of an effort to try to stop the cancellation of that train. Wikipedia and other sites have more info.
It was written and performed by Steve Goodman. Tragically, he died at age 36 from leukemia. He wrote the song after his diagnosis.
A couple of lines I like:
-Feel the wheels rumblin' 'neath the floor
And the sons of pullman porters
And the sons of engineers
Ride their father's magic carpets made of steel-

Two things about the seats: 1. The -old relict- was a plug for the onboard radio consisting of 9 radio stations - you could see which kind of music they played in the paper -Ihr Reiseplan-. The radio was gone for atleast 10 years now I think. 2. The reclining you showed is only the part for the seat itself, but you can also recline the back of it with another handle
About the blurred window: it normally blurs when the train is without any power supply - e. g. if there is a split between two parts of energy circuits.
No the ICE-T are not going to be replaced by ICE 4 - atleast not on this route. On the highspeed lines you won-t find it as often as now, but many international lines and the now IC lines will run with ICE-T in the future.
The phone area once was an actual telephone box.

Have you ever filmed on a Stadler KISS? Would be interesting to see since I come from Serbia, a country which is completing the first section of high speed rail (200 km/h) between Belgrade and Novi Sad and has ordered 3 four-car Stadler KISS trains. Would also be nice if you can come next year (line opens in february) to Serbia to film the route. I would also suggest to go on a trip from Belgrade to Bar which is one of the most beautiful railways in the world (but be warned that on some sections the train goes slow due to unmaintained infrastructure, there is a day and night train available. That trip now takes 11 hours, but improvement projects are announced and it will take 7 hours once it is complete. Hopefully we will see you soon!

13: 14 passing through the small village of Etterzausen in Regensburg County - seems like you missed the shot while going over the bridge crossing the Danube a couple of minutes earlier.
Btw you're not passing through the Bavarian forest range; Between Passau and Regensburg, going parallel to the Danube you also go parallel to the Bavarian forest range; Getting beyond Regensburg you then go through the Upper Palatinate Jura, part of the Franconian Jura which is an upland area with lots of forests

Ah, seat reservations! My experience with DB is that it can show the seat unreserved and then somebody pitches up showing they have reserved that seat! Very confusing! I once tried to book a seat on the ICE from Cologne to Brussels several days prior to date of travel only to be told no seat was available. However a few hours prior catching that train I was able to reserve a seat! What on earth was going on? It does seem there is a problem within their reservations system.

The window becomes blurred when the central energy supply of the train is switched off (or when the train driver doesn't want to be seen. Temporarily, the important electrical devices like the lights, doors and toilets are powered by the battery. There are different reasons to switch off the central power supply e. g. crossing the border or passing an electrical separation point of the catenary. You can also hear it, when the A/C-fans are stopping.
reply

The seats are the same basic model as in the ICE 3 but the armrests are narrower because the body is narrower due to the tilting system.
The phone booth seen at 12: 30 shows the age of the train: These were taken into service when mobile phones weren't as common so the trains still offered pay or card phones. Which were however quite expensive to use and didn't work on all international relations.

You do any train trips in Asia? You should try some trips in Sri Lanka, India, Thailand et al. There are some gorgeous train routes in Asia and it-s really cheap to ride them. India has an extensive railway network and lots of scenic railway routes. And China too.
I-d also recommend Australia and NZ. Try the Indian Pacific and Ghan in Australia and the Coastal Pacific and TranzAlpine in NZ.

I-m studying at the University of Passau which is visible behind the trees around 8: 28! Great to see it from a train. Our classes are almost 100% online right now, but I visited Passau twice near the end of July to take part in some workshops, so perhaps I was there while you were traveling through the city by train! ;)

-1: 31 -Our train will travel almost the whole country of Austra-. erm, no, not even half of it.
We're a small country, but not _that_ small: -)
Vienna-Passau is about 220km as the crow flies. Austria is about 570km wide between its easternmost and westernmost borders.

Thank you for an excellent review. I am a huge fan of the ICE (T, and your service after leaving Wurzburg, runs to Frankfurt, then after reversal, takes the west bank of the Rhine through Mainz and Koblenz to Koln. Its tilting mechanism really comes into its own on that stretch!

I would prefer s9me narration, instead of the fine white print on the screen. The train itself is very beautiful and accentuates how poor USxtrains are in comparison! Oh, how I would love to primarily travel by train - the civilized way to travel, and see the continent!

Totally agree about the dining car. That's one of the things I enjoy most about the long-distance trains here in Canada (in normal times, not right now. Wish I had known about the ICE dining car when I travelled on an ICE three years ago.

7: 33 ICE has smart glass in the engineers cabin for privacy. If the engineer wishes to not be seen, they can activate it from the cabin. Pretty neat, especially combined with the ability to see the seat from the quiet section.

The ICE-TD was first in service between Munich and Zurich for having an ICE service on a non-electrificated line with shorter journey times. But they were a bit too luxury and hadn't enough seating places to be profitable.

3: 17 The ICE TD Is used as testing trains on the ICE Network. They have a dark-ish blue and white livery. They also use the white main paint job but with a silver stripe nicknamed -advanced train lab-.

1: 45 And not the cold refreshing drink, either. - By the way, love the video, man! Such a huge train buff and can hardly wait to see your next video and even someday take a ride aboard the ICE train myself.

Traveled with them from Vienna to Frankfurt back in 2011 in 1st class. Nice experience. However for me, RailJet is still the most comfortable train service on long distance. Nice video as always. -

This is the train I usually get on the central Rhine valley or on the Frankfurt to Dresden Train. Tbh, I don-t like it. Idk why. I just prefer the newer trains and seems so painfully slow to me-
reply

The ICE T has the nicest Interior of All ICEs, love those long corridors between the cars, which makes it feel extremely roomy. And the 1st class with these privacy Walls is also very comfy

Do the sound barriers do anything for nearby residents or are they useless like highway ones? I know they cost a lot of money and obstruct the scenery on a lot of French lines, right?
reply

I didn't realize that the diesel ICT was pulled from service. Man, that was a short service life. Still not as bad as the RTL-III incarnation of the Rohr Turboliner, but close!

Cool video. Greetings from Romania. Why are trains so freakin expensive tho in Europe. :. It's sad. You can do this trip with a car or Flixbus at a fraction of this price.
reply

4: 45 yes, back in the days you were able to listen to various radios on the train (listed in the travel guide) and even watch some TV, because the seats had small screens
reply

Great work, it's always a joy watching your videos: )
Btw would it be possible to test the WiFi in the trains? I think that might be interesting for many people.

reply

We love taking trains when we are in Europe. Trains here in the US aren't really an option unless you have a LOT of time (days) to get from one place to another.
reply

Have you seen the special liveryb one of the ICE TD had in Denmark, it was blue and white, and had kinda the same livery as the danish IC4?
reply

This october, i have traveled from Wien to Frankfurt with ICE train on first class, it was amazing. The restaurant car was also amazing
reply

the uk buying fast trains that work and have food areas etc lolo they would far rather buy cheap nasty rubbish that falls apart in seconds!
reply

As ICE 3 and ICE 4 has been built. Do you think that ICE 5 trains could be built and to be tilted. Just like the Class 390 Pendolinos.
reply

Encouraging to see people living again. But I predict that you will be wearing those worthless masks by Xmas 2022 and beyond.
reply

We rode on the ICE-TD from Hamburg to Copenhagen in 2012, pity that line with ferry connection has been discontinued.
reply
