Hi there Mike. I have several comments if necessary:
1. I love those 2 Warbonnet engines I had just seen on my vacation in Chicago. I've heard of BNSF Bluebonnet engines also. Which is your favorite BNSF paint scheme? Do you like the Burlington Northern paint scheme which is green, the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Warbonnet paint scheme colored red and silver, the Bluebonnet paint scheme colored yellow and blue like CSX's paint scheme, the green and cream yellow paint scheme for BNSF heritage units, or just the normal BNSF paint scheme?
2. I love that movie on the Fillmore and Western Railway in Fillmore, CA. Could you railfan in Naperville, IL, at Naperville Metra Station? That was my first stop on the California Zephyr.
3. Would you like to go to Canada to get your first shot of Toronto's GO Transit, AMT Montreal, West Coast Express in Vancouver, and see BC Rail Canada, like I just saw in Bryan, Ohio? Thanks for liking my trip to Utah. I gladly appreciate it.

Some years ago, I did a write up on the F59PHI prototype. The website isn't around any longer, but I noted the difference between the prototype locomotive, and later production ones. One of the most curious differences, was the prototype engine had a freight engine styled control stand; while the production ones had the more common 'desk' style. I know that the prototype hung around on EMD property for some years, and was used as a test bed for various safety measures and the like, but I'm not sure if they ever sold it, or scrapped it. Technically, according to EMD, it was a F59PHI-A, with the dash A designating it was one variant. I think they intended to sell it in that format, but no companies were interested.

I love the F59PHI and how EMD/GM collaborated to come up with a stunning look. The Surfliner sets were by far the most attractive train sets made since Amtrak began. I'm sad that they are being replaced. In fact their replacement is by far the ugliest passenger option they could have chosen.
I love the style of the new F125s but the Caterpillar built units have been inoperable for Metrolink. The SC44 would be ok if they reworked the front end. Via has an attractive alternative to what has been delivered to Amtrak. Maybe with a new administration a larger investment could be made and a better solution could be found.

I never knew until watching yours and AmtrakGuy365's videos on the PHI that the design was initially tendered by Caltrans, and the intent of the streamlined shape. I'm a Montrealer, so I'm familiar with exo's (previously AMT) units, and now have a much bigger appreciation for them. Also, our ex-GO PHs were rebuilt a few years ago at Juniata. The two types make up the bulk of exo's locomotive fleet, alongside Bombardier ALP-45DP that I expect could be sold at some point since their electric mode is basically useless now (see the REM project.

Well, they-re gone. Amtrak has retired all of there f59phis from surfliner service. Most were sold to metra. God knows how long they-ll be there. It-s only a matter of time before metra buys sc44s and f125s. It won-t be the same without them. It will never be the same. Only a handful remain on Amtrak on the ncdot trains. Many computer railroads have them, but they will probably be gone soon, too.
Rest In Peace, f59phi
We all miss you.

I like the F59PH and F59PHI locomotives but it is sad that some over in California such as Metrolink have been retired. And a warning to all of you that commented here don't believe on what Sebastian Floyd says because he says false things about the F59s getting rebuilt, put back into service and getting sold to new rail agencies.

So ummm. GO transit is mentioned many times, plus they were the original buyers, but no pics or vids of GO F59phs and only 1 in the green and white scheme in the video. Also, GO has 8 F59phs left and are replacing them with MP54s. They will likely keep a few for yard service but retire most of their last 8.

I love the F59I! I grew up with them on the Surfliners and Metrolinks and always thought they look iconic. Plus they pair perfectly with the superliner cars. Frankly the new charger locomotives are hideous and look very out of place.

I live in Washington and most of the time I see chargers on Amtrak cascades or cabbages but on a rare occasion I see one of these sleek engines pass by. Cant say I don't love that old horn and sound of it passing by.
