FAT Acceptance FAT Shaming Morgan: Okay, I agree with the fact that we should all try to be as healthy as possible. But I don't think the fat acceptance movement is necessarily a bad thing either. It's not so much about saying that being unhealthy is a good thing, it's about the state of mind. A lot of over weight or obese people go and try to lose weight and actually do it, but wind up becoming very unhealthy because of the reason they were pushed to lose weight in the first place. Going around and saying that fat people are ugly, or that being overweight is one of the worst things to be isn't the way to go about it. Body positivity isn't about saying that any weight is healthy, it's about showing that by loving yourself, you can become the healthiest version of yourself. I myself was very overweight and I still am a little bit. I started out losing weight for all the wrong reasons and I became very unhealthy, but when I took the chance to actually love myself, to start eating the right foods, and exercising because I wanted to be healthy, for me, not for anyone else. That's when I started to become the best version of myself. So maybe, instead of promoting weight loss, and saying that the body acceptance movement is a bad thing, maybe you could help to promote health all the way across the board, not just physical health. Because at the end of the day, what use is a healthy body, if you don't also have a healthy mind.

Thank you for this. I find it equally disturbing how people treat the (nearly) worldwide obesity epidemic. What people don't often realize is that obesity and anorexia are closely related: they both often stem from eating disorders. If a person has a friend with anorexia, it's considered kind and caring to show concern for their friend's unhealthy weight loss. To ignore anorexia or glorify it is considered wrong and disturbing by most people. Well, obesity causes just as many health problems, and yet, to voice concern about it is considered wrong, unkind, and fat shaming. Of course, people come in various shapes and sizes. A person could be 5'4 107 lbs and very healthy, while another person might be 5'4 135 lbs and equally healthy; so there's definitely a range, which has to do mostly with bone structure and muscle mass. However, there's definitely a point at which a person is over or under weight and that cannot and should not be constituted as healthy or beautiful. When a loved one has cancer, we love and accept them; we do not love nor accept the disease. We do not have to love a person's illness in order to love the person.

Thing is, I have known people to be bigger but they eat healthy diets, they are vegan, they exercise, but they are just a little bigger. And at that point, that's when I think the fat acceptance movement is okay. When the person is actually healthy and their vitals are fine, but they have a slightly flabby stomach or bigger thighs and they get shamed for that. But the woman in the first clip, that isn't beautiful, that is just putting yourself in an early grave. I am a size 12 (UK) but I regularly work out and I eat (what I think to be) a healthy diet, yet I still have this weight. But I have gone to the doctors numerous times and my vitals are all fine and I'm classed as healthy. So with myself, I am very much Big is beautiful and don't fat shame me. That's just my thought though.

I've got an obese sister, but she won't accept it. She says she eats healthily, while in line at McDonalds (literally, she was telling me how disgusting kale is while a double cheeseburger is in her mouth) and that I'm bullying her. She's shorter than me and a few stone, I would guess three stone which is 42 pounds, heavier than me. But that extra weight is not muscle, so don't give me that argument. I really want to help her but she's convinced that she's 6 1/2 stone and that she's healthy because she eats an apple most days. Apples or tomatoes in ketchup or pizza is most likely the only source of vitamins she gets. Any tips?

It's horrible that maybe you don't consider that ppl want to be like u. Ur skinny and that's okay but your pressuring ppl to become skinny and fit and maybe they have a problem losing weight! Maybe it's a disease and maybe they have depression or an eating disorder! Ur judgements are not helping they need actual help and u telling them they need to be motivated my what u say is like telling someone who has a disease to get better? Is that helping? NO

Not vegan, but I still agree %100 with the whole fat acceptance controversy. Its enabling people to slowly kill themselves just because they are being accepted for who they are but also for no matter what they do; THATS WHY SO MANY PEOPLE ARE DYING! A real friend wouldnt just sit back and watch their friend die from a bad habit, they would say something. Fat acceptance is not the answer, ACCEPTANCE is.

all my mom buys is unhealthy processed junk. I don't know what I can do to fix that. she won't listen to me. it affected me and my brother very negatively when we were growing up. we were overweight most of our lives. I'm trying extremely hard to eat better but when your number one influence is eating to kill themselves it's hard. it's depressing

Ha. maybe I should start making a tv season where we take a fat person and turn him into a power machine. Don't know how long it would take cause I have never lost weight from any of that but for all I know moderately fat people who lost weight are usually the strongest cause they already have muscles that lift hundreds of pounds everytime they walk.

ha. when I listen to anti feminists. I don't want to be onesided. so I searched up pro fat acceptance video. and this is what came up. I guess fat people are too lazy to even make videos. also Nike said it too. just do it. and you will run 8 miles a hour for yes. an hour! I leave my boyfriend in the dust when we race in a hike.

I hate this fat acceptance movement. I was overweight and it sucked! I lost 51 pounds on a high protein low carb diet. Even reversed my hypothyroidism! Diet is so important. Exercise, even a little bit is better than sitting all day.
