Hey, I provide cedar shakes and shingles all over the world. I would love to lend some advise if you-re open to it. a couple small things off the bat. first thing is you want to use cedar as the wood specie. also with shingles in order to apply a 3 ply roofing system and remain dry they must be laid at a reduced exposure. unlike shakes which require an interlayment between each row and the exposure is farther apart. the 3 main lengths of shingles are 16- (5 inch exposure, 18- perfection shingle (5. 5- exposure, or 24- Royal shingles (7. 5- exposure. you could even apply over the sheet metal so you have extra protection but can also enjoy the aesthetics of a wood roof and as Nicole said in an earlier video that the sound of the rain would be much more natural. I have some cool little simple ideas. heck maybe I can send you a few squares and I can also get the cca pressure treated. I have lots of info in my head when it comes to shakes and shingles. my dad has been in the business 30 plus years, and I started 7 years ago. feel free to ask anytime if you want.

9: 17 sawing a tree down; Jake, have to say I've never seen anybody hold the TOP OF THE SAW BLADE TOWARDS A TREE, when cutting it down? Maybe your more comfortable? I'm not a pro lumberjack, but I've done my share in the woods. Just wanted to ask that question. Also, with the milling saw; Couldn't you insert the saw into the mill with the engine so it was above the mill deck? (may have to reconfigure the mill settings) Seems it would help with clearance issues a lot of the time. KEEP BUILDING! I'm a retired construction guy (roofing contractor/30 yrs) and I'm really here for the construction projects; not much of a foodie (sorry, not a vegan, but your videos are great, food and all. Really appreciate the forest and scenery, and LOVE the boating sequences! Go LOGwJ&N!

Love LOVE the show. Very informative. A little concerned about Nicoles safety. Jake, although seems competent, highly intelligent in so many things, worries me. He questions Nicole about what they are doing and how they did it, helps her with the answers. I wonder if there's a written test. but some how his eyes just seem a bit psycho to me. Hope she follows orders to a T. Hope he doesn't go all Jack Nicolson -Here's Johnny- on her someday. I guess we just stay tuned and hope for the best. She's a beautiful, creative highly intelligent woman.

Both of you, please - create a comprehensive fire break from the significant blaze factors in case of plasma fires of the future. A safety shelter below the surface. You Do Not Dig but build then cover! Trying to keep a watchful eye for all.

I don't know the areas weather, but a tin roof is a lightening collector, stoood on insulated wooden legs it's then a lightening emitter. You need to drive a long metal lightening rod into the ground at its furthest point away from the yurt and connect that with a suitable lightening conductor to it. That's like a strip of copper an inch wide and quarter inch thick, and should withstand a blast but a good one could even melt it.

Jake, you dont start at the top with shingles. You always start at the drip edge and work up, even with planks. So you srew down the bottom plank by the drip edge down flat. Then over lap the next plank 1. 5 to 2 inches over the first plank. Then you just go up to the peak. And how you seal the cap is a wider then the gap cap board. I hope this makes sense. The thing i see in your programs is oneness & unity, do not let others destroy that, or split you two into two different directions, yes the man is the head of the house, but two seperated does not make one body as unity is desined to be in a family, & im seeing the joy of togetherness being pulled & & stressed, keep it sound

High quality shingles are split, sawed shingles only last a few years especially in such wet climates, but shingles split with the grain using a froe tool last 20-30 years in wet climates, in the mountain climate of switzerland, some of the shingle roofs last over 100 years, i have seen some as old as 300 years there.

lol a single long shingle. that would be called a clap board. it can be used on walls and roofs as well as boats. what you are planning is called a clap board roof. which will work quite well with a decent slope but can have leak issues on low angles with ice freezing under the lips
