In If Beale Street Could Talk, adapted from the 1974 novel by James Baldwin, a young black couple, Tish and Fonny (KiKi Layne and Stephan James) struggle to make a comfortable life for themselves in early 1970s New York while facing mounting conflicts along the way.
Here, Jenkins discusses a scene in which a landlord (Dave Franco) shows the couple a raw warehouse space that doesnt look as if its fit to live in. But Fonnys imagination helps to envision otherwise.
