Reporting from conflict zones will always be dangerous. But where should journalists draw the line? And who pays the price when they take too many risks? In her Op-Doc, From Journalist to Hostage, director Sonia Kennebeck explores those questions at close range, through the story of a reporter who was held captive by Somali pirates for two and a half years. Many commentators have suggested that journalists like Michael Scott Moore have no business taking such risks and shouldnt expect sympathy or aid. But if reporters always steer clear of dangerous places, will important stories go untold?

I hope people realize that Somali pirates were born out of a place of hunger, repeat abuses, and oppression. For over a century, Somali people were colonized and abused by people who look like this man. It is easy to see where their distrust and disdain for him and those who look like him come from. In the past few decades, Somali waters have seen a drop in the population of fish that were once plentiful and abundant there. Imagine if your livelihood began to disappear because of foreign fishermen from Europe and Asia. How do you plan to feed your children? Somalia has no governmental funding for a coast guard branch like the United States. Thus the starved people take matters into their own hands and become their own guards. On the other hand, nobody deserves to be kidnapped and used for ransom. That is extremely barbaric and lacks humanity. Yet before we rush to extreme judgements about a country and its people, we should realize that every story has two sides.

I appreciate his bravery and dedication in journalism, he didn't deserve any of this at all. But when you're going to a dangerous place for foreigners you need to take note of the risks. He already had signs not to go, he wasn't getting that insurance. He acknowledges the fact he should have called off the trip. His nievity played a role in this. You can't criticise him for doing his job but you can criticise him for not being safe with his job. I feel sorry for him. But he is a reminder that when you're going to dangerous places don't treat it lightly, he was treating it VERY lighty. Literally went surfing.
Hopefully nobody else suffers what this man suffered.

Yo if this man is an actual man united fan I feel even worse for him. He went from league winners to spend 300 million to barely even win the Europa league.

0: 58 sorry to break it to you, but if you shoot that RPG, everyone will die. P. S, RPG-7 rounds only arm themselves once they reach 5 meters.
