WOW PewDiePie Hacks, Kendall Jenner IS A HERO, Bird Box, Saudi Girl Escape, & Government Shutdown bkquigle: Have to tell you how hard the last two weeks were without getting Philed in while the shutdown was going on As a non-essential employee for the FedGov, I have to say that I think the biggest impact really is on the American Taxpayers. Federal agencies exist to support the American public - that's it. Our missions are all directly related to serving Americans. And Americans are suffering because the FedGov employees are suffering. Nearly all agencies are still dealing with the effects of the Trump-mandated hiring freeze when he took office. Baby boomers are still retiring in high numbers, and others are seeking employment in the Private sector at high rates due to the turmoil and stress of working as civil servants. The hiring freeze and other related mandates meant that agencies were either unable to backfill vacated positions, or had to jump through red tape (read: TIME) to get new people in those positions. So we're working under these incredible constraints - workload still exists but you only have 2/3rd or less of the staff to complete it. That's our daily reality when things are actually running. Now you've got nearly 3 weeks of work stoppage. 3 weeks of unforeseen delays. And right at the end of the calendar year when a whole new set of people have retired. The stress of knowing what is waiting for me upon my return is almost more than the stress of potentially going without pay for this time. I also hate that the taxpayers still pay for this one way or another - either we'll be reimbursed for the time we were away (and the taxpayers pay for our salaries without the benefit of the work being performed, or we will be eligible to receive unemployment, and then likely be working (with pay) overtime to accomplish what we could have done in the regular course of our daily jobs. I think it would be great if you did a deep-dive series related to the civil servants of the government and how every American is supported and benefits from the FedGov agencies. It's not just those filing taxes and receiving social security benefits

I do not work for the federal government, but my father does. He is considered an essential employee because he works for the FAA maintaining an Air Force Base that can and has been used to respond to an attack against the United States. He and my mother divorced when I was 12 and he paid her child support until I turned 21, at which point he started paying child support to me directly and will have to until I'm either able to support myself (doubtful, considering my disabilities) or I turn 26. Every two weeks the IRS takes about four hundred dollars out of his paycheck and deposits it directly into my bank account. Currently, not only he is working and not getting paid, but he's also unable to pay me child support. I'm not whining about it. I don't make big extravagant purchases often and have plenty of money saved up to last me a month or two if this shutdown continues to drag on. What I am worried about, though, is that my father might get in trouble for not paying child support because right now it looks like he's not paying me when in fact it's not his fault, it's the government. My state is one of the strictest when it comes to enforcing child support payments and I'm worried that in addition to having to work without pay and keeping up with all of his normal bills, he's going to have to worry about figuring out how to pay a lawyer and facing criminal charges for something that was absolutely not his fault.

Whats the larger number? At its largest estimate, border wall construction will cost up to four payments of 5. xB. Maintenance could be as much as a billion, maybe less. Per annum, illegal immigration ops cost upwards of 135-150B. Thats per year, every year. Building this wall will significantly lower human and materials trafficking into the US and lower the overall cost of policing illegals in the first place. Just lowering the annual price tag of immigration operations by a few % can offset the cost of construction, and Central and South American nations will be forced to deal with a United States that is more serious about illegal trade and human rights violations. Build the wall already. I dont care if an impeachment attempt is started afterwards. Its the correct thing to do financially, morally, ethically and under the spirit of the Constitution, the various US Codes, and laws already on the books.

I had acne and even went the accutane route in order to cure it. (Super intense Rx drug) I will admit that acne was suuuper psychological for me, with anxiety and paranoia, confidence, etc. BUT they lost even me, when they built up the hype soooo much. She is brave to show imperfection in her shoes and industry, but maybe brave with a lowercase b. It is admirable and was a difficulty for her (shes also shown/mentioned that shes had a sort of generalized anxiety) but the build-up seemed like it made her message a bit less genuine, because of the clear motive to boost her income from the extra (kinda misleading) hyping of the ads release. She should make money for spokesmodeling for sure, but this was going the extra mile.

I'm going to training to be a flight attendant for a major US airline next month, and the TSA situation currently scares the shit out of me. KCM (known crew member) checkpoints are being threatened, which could cause delays for crewmembers and eventually flights as boarding can't begin until all crew members have checked in. TSA is basically our last defense, and with safety measures potentially cut for major airport hubs (DFW in particular) we as crew members are being put in immediate danger. I'm hoping this new outrage/the first missed check will force an addendum a la the coast guard, but it's pathetic that it's gotten to this point. US security is in danger in the name of US security? doesn't make sense to me

As someone who dealt with acne into adult life, I can say its rough. It feels like shit and people treat you differently because of it. The advertising appeals to that emotion by design. Seriously, nobody wants red puss-filled bumps of their face. Its a personal struggle tied to self confidence. When her mother says shes being brave, maybe its because Kendall is a model. Just showing past photos of her acne is antithetical to a standard of beauty that employs her. Does it feel weird? Yeah. It feels weird. But theyre trying to sell acne treatment. This style of advertising is SUPER effective on acne-prone people feeling like shit, which is why they keep doing it.

Kind of curious, when Phil says more conservative elements, I wonder if he has ever referenced people that are liberal as simply being more liberal elements like he just boxed those conservative people that talked to Pres. Trump. Because he kind of made them sound like nothing more than lobbyists instead of people with opinions that are part of the administration. Pres. Obama had the same setting, but I don't think his administration would have been clssified like that on here. Then again, Pres. Obama has never been portrayed as having to be handled like almost every outlet says about Trump, so I wonder if that is subconsciously bleeding through here.

Not sure if you weren't aware, forgot, or just left it out for time, government contractors get hit by this shut down as well. As one of our clients is the EPA we received an email last week issuing a stop work order on one of our contracts. That contract entails a large amount of work that I do with the EPA basically hamstringing 33% of my job until this shut down ends, luckily the remaining work can't be touched as the remaining organizations have been funded for the year. So yeah, government contractors get shit on by a shutdown as well.

If Trump OPENED the border (again) as the one in Canada is today. People would have _NO_ issue leaving the USA knowing that they could return. Trump should have had some history lessons before taking on his current job. California & New Mexico were once part of Mexico Taken during a war. Mexico, should be an allie considering, its close proximity to the USA. Work together to stop the drug cartel BS. Better world? Problems started to finally be ReSolved

The democrats don't care about 5 billion. They spend money like its free candy all the timeThis is just about denying President Trump a political winOne thing people love saying to Trump supporters Is how's that wall coming? To try to show it as proof he doesn't keep promisesThat wouldn't work if he actually built the wallThat's what this is about. YOU may genuinely think it's a waste of money but the government waste way more on much dumber things
