THIS plus size burlesque dancer wants to show the world that you can be a performer no matter what size you are. 38-year-old, Wendy Sanders, AKA Ginger Snaps, has been voted -Best Burlesque Performer- four times in a row by the Austin Chronicle Readers poll. And now, the curvaceous redhead from Austin, Texas has combined her burlesque performance with sensational aerial skills. Wendy is also trying to inspire other plus size people to get involved in things that maybe they thought they couldn-t. Videographer / director: Marcus Cooper, James Payne Producer: Stephanie Stijkel

As someone completely plus size and has been since childhood, this is completely new to me that people of size can actually do things that we'd normally see lighter people do. Like I thought all along that maybe the extra weight can be a hindrance to things like aerial tricks and such. Now I'm inspired honestly. I have kinda wanted to see how far I can go with my body but I thought in order to do that, I'd have to lose a lot of weight. She knows how to carry her body and navigate with it for real. It probably took a while to get to know her body and get comfortable with how her body is and basically became master of her own vessel. Of course negative societal, environmental, etc. conditions do not help the body image thing for those who are self-conscious especially, like I have been for a while. Thank you for opening my eyes a bit, and others as well! You're all beautiful! -

If this was a lady with Anorexia claiming that there is nothing wrong with having their body type it would be taken down for encouraging dangerous and possibly fatal eating habits and rightly so. Campaigns resulted in the end of dangerously thin models in fashion shows and magazines. However the flip side of this seems to be embraced yet obesity is just as dangerous as anorexia and it is insane to celebrate it as it can lead to diabetes, heart disease, infertility, cancer stroke etc The world has gone mad- fashion magazines now have obese and morbidly obese models on the cover but dangerously thin models have been banned. Celebrating obesity is encouraging a very dangerous lifestyle and is so wrong.

I wanna do this now - idk where to even go because people want thin and I'm not that: ( I've always wanted to be a plus size pinup model but for like, tattoo magazines in stuff. I love having my piercings and tattoos on display. Plus my stretched ears. There's a lot of women my size and shape doing hella cool things and it gets hard trying to muster up courage to wear a two piece in public. Like those high waisted bottoms and halter top bathing suits on Amazon. Someday lol.
Holy crap, I'm near Austin TX! Like, 45 minutes away. Maybe this is a sign!

I have a question. She mentions that society tells larger women that they cannot do something (like this. I personally do not experience this or have heard this in my environment (probably because I'm not a larger woman) and don't see it written anywhere. I also know that some opinions or rules are implied instead of written or said. Can someone in the comment section educate me on this and give me some examples?

Wow she's bloomin' amazing, what an inspiration! Her comment about the five black leotards made me laugh and go 'uh-huh' at the same time. I've always wanted to try ariel but thought I'd be too heavy, now I've seen her it's made me feel like 'well, YEAH, why not have a go! '. Brilliant.

Too stay that fat with all the physical things she does means she's consuming massive amounts of calories a day. When I see someone that size I understand it's literally physically abusing yourself. It's faux confidence. If she lost weight she would feel so much freer in the air.

And this is where I point out that if ANYONE ever says -Fat automatically means unhealthy or unfit- that they need to take several f-cking seats. You can be bigger, still eat right and be active, and guess what. still be bigger. Everyone is capable of everything!
reply

Society says obese people shouldn't do burlesque and to take care of themselves.
Maybe it's because most people don't want to see Yall on stage taking your clothes off. Not because society doesn't want you to work out how you want.
Gym vs stage

Burlesque is an act not about stripping. There is no specific type for burlesque. It should be an art form, humorous and creative. She is a perfect burlesque performer. -

i think she's beautiful, creative and man I'm jealous of her agility. Why do people feel the need to spew so much hate/jealousy? What a miserable life they must live.
reply

'I think you'll be amazed by all the things your body can do'
Me, a severely disabled/chronically ill person:
'Hahaha. You have thought wrong. '

I worry that she is morbidly obese, she needs to lose weight or she will most likely die young. She seems like a lovely lady.
reply

She moves so well! She has amazing body control and power and that's what makes her really look like the pro that she is.
reply

Usually big ppl is sweat easily. But her body dont disturb her daily activity. So it doesnt matter as long as she healthy
reply

The entire time I'm thinking, -what did they reinforce the stuff with so it wouldn't break under all that weight! -
reply

Im just interested how much she should eat to maintain her weight if she is doing such a hard excercise regularly?
reply

I want an aerial hoop now. the moment i graduate highschool after i get my piercings and tats, this is my next goal
reply

Dispite her size she's still more active than me. This proofs that weight can't define your physical activities.
