FARAH was just eight years old when she was diagnosed with alopecia areata and by the age of 15, her hair had completely fallen out. She told Truly: Alopecia is an autoimmune disease and it just means my immune system attacks the hair follicles which causes hair loss. Talking about losing her locks, Farah revealed: It was really scary, it was just a constant thing to figure out how I was going to cover it and hide it. Subjected to cruel bullying at school, Farah hid her bald reflection from the world, even avoiding her reflection at home. She said: I was a very insecure kid. I'd lock myself in the bathroom, cover the mirrors. I couldn't look at myself. When Farah studied jewellery design at university, she decided to speak about her alopecia journey for the first time by creating a collection inspired by her experience. Farah's tutor encouraged her to model each piece - which meant ditching the wig for the very first time. She admitted: It feels extremely vulnerable when you let people see you without your wig on. That was the first time I'd let the world see me without my wig on. In this episode of Shake My Beauty, we'll gain a greater insight into Farah's alopecia journey and how she now proudly embraces - and loves - her bald head

I choose to wear my hair shaved or bald & the things people say to me regards it are rarely complimentary.
(More so when shaved & coloured,
than when fully bald) -
So can totally empathise with this lady.
It-s a Western beauty standard thing, as there are many cultures around the world - where women wear their hair short or bald
& it is seen as normal & beautiful! -

She's a beautiful woman. Sad that people grow up thinking being bald is a bad thing, especially on women. It's a way of life for many, and no one should have a right to judge that. People can be so naive and cruel, mainly kids. We need to start teaching our youth that beauty standards are not relevant. People have their own unique look, and it should be embraced, not shamed.

Is so funny at the end, when you're young you're so in to the box, you need to be much older to understund how unique you are! And is Alopecia. come on! Is unharmful! there is so bad autoimmune and chronic diseases, im sure if you watch any documentary/research about autoimmune and chronic diseases after that you will feel so lucky and thankful!

Alopecia is so common, I don-t even bat an eye anymore, when I hear someone-s story regarding it. I have alopecia as well, and although mine isn-t as bad as this beautiful young woman-s, I bet she feels such freedom from being able to finally be 100% herself. One day I will get there. --

She looks a million times better without hair. Life created a queen. it sucks losing hair when you-re a girl but as someone who also went through the hair loss I must say we-re way better bald. ------- if I had to pull of my best look in a fancy situation I-d go bald. Works like a charm

I had a friend with alopecia, and I just saw her as a regular person, even though she was bald. Nothing wrong with being bald although I-ll still imagine Mr. clean and Baldy-s basics when I see you because I-m just like that.

She's actually way prettier without the wigs/hair. Her skin is beautiful and her facial features are STUNNING. She was always super pretty, even as a kid. Any bullying/hate she received was clearly because other people were jealous.

I have this disese too. I'm nearly bald and just wear a wig most of the time. It's genetic for me, as I have multiple female family members with it.

If the viewers watching this were mirrors, I bet most would say, -don't avoid me, we find you very beautiful, Farah. -: )
