A GOTHIC-obsessed mum has decided to undergo an extreme make-under to surprise her partner and 6-year-old daughter. Emily Boo, from Ipswich, has dressed in black since she was a teen and has collected over 150 modifications including facial tattoos and piercings. As a part of Truly's brand new series, Transformed, she stepped out of her comfort zone and tried out what she describes as a basic b----- look

Quick question. can you be a goth at heart and seem very different? I am cheery but I also know people see me as eccentric. My style is closest to what I would call -New England boarding school chic circa 1945- and externally people look at me and see one thing and are always shocked to learn about my fave subjects and hobbies and such (I know this because I have been told this repeatedly) For example, my fave clothes include a sweater vest with King Charles spaniels on them, a 1950s styled rain jacket, and a burgundy Nordic sweater that I pair with a turtleneck. So people see me and see one thing and then get to know me and are surprised. For example, I want to visit various poisonous plant gardens (I have a list because I love learning about poisonous plants, celebrate Day of the Dead, love old wacky films like The Bad Seed and Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? And Hannibal NBC is one of my all time fave TV shows. Definitely am drawn to things that others would call dark but you wouldn't necessarily know it from how I talk/ act/ or my style.
I do have skeleton pajamas though. So there is that, I guess. Oh, and I also love Anne with an E and quaint things too. It's like. all the quaint things? I will take them. I especially like things like old trains and label makers and stuff others consider old fashioned (typewriters, old maps, and I love retro pop cans and mechanical pencils that look abot 60 years old. I am working on making a Victorian bat kite atm, which I am excited about. I feel like I like so many different things that I don't fit in cleanly anywhere.
So I wonder sometimes if you can have the soul of a goth and then the outwards appearance that seems very different. (My outfits are generally not what most would consider basic though. Growing up I was called eccentric. I was obsessed with vacuums, trains, movie dates and one of my first words was spy for spider. So much so that I was given a mother of pearl spider necklace as a child for starting middle school)
I am also too intense. :/

I kind of want to do this- like, my style isn-t too out there. I really like sweaters and straight wide leg jeans and pants and I love wearing earrings, necklaces, and rings. My favorite shoes are converse, heeled boots, and normal boots. I also have shorter hair (sort of like something you would see one of the male kpop stars with, even though I-m a girl) and so I never have too much to do with my hair. Trying out different styles and makeup would be so fun. I would love to see what I would look like in emo/gothic since I find some of gothic really awesome and something I-d want to wear and black and red, and darker colors are my favorite. Plus I love emo music too

Her daughter doesn't know the difference though. This makeover showed the difference. I think people forget that when you're talking about a kid and them liking the way you look. It depends on if they ever knew the parent any different. If they have nothing to compare too. they can't compare. I have a couple friends who married and have a kid and do dress differently too but their kid doesn't know the difference. Shes very pretty though and does seem to have a nice personality regardless. But certainly pretty.

I really actually loved her new look. I wonder if she did as well. She wasn't hating it it seemed. My guess is that because someone else stayed what they like the best was her only reasoning for going back. I've know a woman that had dreads for many years that wanted a change and went through the process of getting them out and restyling her natural hair and her family wasn't supportive of her new look which she loved.

She's beautiful and seems to be a happy person to hang with. I must admit I didn't like that her family didn't encourage her in her new temporary beauty as they did with her normal beauty. It wasn't accepting her. What if she likes the new look or wants to consider it? They made fun and didn't say one true encouraging word without it being a backhand slap.
I'm glad she's happy with her true self,

He was so rude! Especially considering how -typical- people judge alt people and goth people. I-m sure he doesn-t prefer it, but c-mon be mature. She looks lovely both ways. It rubs me the wrong way that he wasn-t even supportive and immediately so judgmental and insulting in front of their child.
reply

I don't like the fact that she specifically said she doesn't like yellow, blue jeans, or pointed shoes, and they gave it to her anyway. Of course she's not gonna like anything about the makeover when you did everything she specifically said _not_ to do lol

Emily looked really really beautiful! Just the clothes looked abit like she-s 40! Other than that she looked good!
I like goths, most of them are the sweetest, most caring people you-ll ever meet! -

reply

Can't they actually make the opposite style one that actually suits the person wearing it. Like the show -love lust or run? - It's like you choose clothes you know they will look ugly in.
reply

Also whilst watching this my 7 year old who grew up watching Emily and myself be goth said I don't want her to change mummy! Change back! Our children like us the way we are lol
reply

I always think the BF or Husbands of these people prefer the Goth look more when they see how pretty their Wife or GF actually is. It's almost a threat to losing them.
reply

I love the way you are! But I think you look good in the -normal- look but definitely need a different outfit to make it not so weird. idk who would wear that outfit lol
reply

I remember seeing her on -Makeunder- a few years ago. I always thought that show was so oppressive so it's nice to see Emily's true personality show in this video!
reply

I think the husband-s afraid that if his wife looks like that she-ll do better than him because he looks terrible and she looks hot!
reply

Emily boo: I don-t like pink or yellow!
On my recommendation: The besties Obsessed with Pink & Yellow -HOOKED ON THE LOOK-

reply

I NEED TO KNOW
When your girl said stinkier did she mean like armpit odour cause my Goth friends always have a smell. Armpit odour

reply

Worst style people who dress like that have to make up for having no personality so they have to dress extremely weird to be liked
reply

-Goths are not cheery- proceeds to say that with the biggest smile on her face LMAO. Love this girl she's awesome and beautiful!
reply

-If my daughter says she likes it, I will be very surprised-and put her up for adoption. - In my house, we say DISOOOOOWNED. :D
reply

Damn she's beautiful either way
Goth and basic he'll put her in a sack potatoe dress she would still be beautiful

reply

Sad that so many who love goth style have such a condescending view of girls who value traditional feminine looks.
reply

You are actually very beautiful. You looks great. I am sure there are a lot of people love your new look.
reply

Why do they pick god awful clothes for these poor girls, her face looks beautiful the outfit is hideous.
reply

I gotta say. this just doesn't look right. It's like whoever bought your outfit is trying WAY too hard.
