RIPU Bhatia feels he has had a second chance at life after surviving meningococcal septicemia. At the age of just 21, Ripu, from Auckland, New Zealand, contracted the blood infection which resulted in the loss of his nose, upper lip and the amputation of his legs and arms. Ripu could not look in the mirror for a long time and lost a lot of confidence. After 250 days in hospitals and a rehab centre, Ripu adapted to these massive physical changes and has gradually rebuilt his confidence. Now, the 27-year-old has fulfilled his dreams of becoming a journalist and feels his experiences serve him well in this role. While he is smashing life career-wise, Ripu wants to get back into exercise, having not been swimming in years since his rehabilitation sessions. Now, he is ready to get back in the pool and this time, with a friend. Ripu told Truly: -To come so close to death and emerge as a physically different person and mentally different, in a lot of ways, is a significant change, to put it lightly. And I do feel I've got a second chance in life

He has handled this amazingly. Great guy. It-s insane that an infection can do that. I tend to complain so much about my life, seeing things like these help out things in perspective. I-m trying to be a more positive and grateful person. You don-t know what you have until you lose it.

This is what I'm talking about! I hear people complain all the time about really dumb things and this guy goes out and conquers his life even through all his adversities. I have no reason to complain about anything. I am eternally grateful.

21 and lost most of his limbs. I actually thought this was going to be about an Iraq or Afghan war combat vet that lost his limbs from an IED. Had no idea you could also lose multiple body parts from something like this.

What will you do, if there is no Family? Neither Friends?
A Situation a lot of older People are in.
Keep in mind Refugees! Lonely People, left alone.
Although this guy is a very, VERY strong man!

Love it that he didn't give up on himself so do his family and friends. Life itself is everything we should fight for, the way he did. His life story can change many. ---

How does this guy have money it-s not like he has a job how does a disabled person look like they-re living a better life than most people shouldn-t their life be the worst of all

What an inspiration.
If you could wipe one thing off the planet I feel like this one of those things.

He swims actually fast. It shows the importance of stretching lats, which took me years to understand.
