AN ARTIST is embracing her chest hair and challenging beauty ideals by creating a self-liberating photography project about body hair and femininity. Esther Calixte-Bea - also known on social media as 'Queen Esie' - from Montreal, Canada, said she inherited the hairiness from her father's family who is part of the W- tribe in Ivory Coast, Africa. Esther spent her teenage years hating and obsessively shaving the hair on her chest and legs, to the point that it left her severely depressed. Tired of hiding her chest hair like 'a heavy burden' for years, she began questioning the cultural norms and ideals around female body hair. At the age of 22, Esther finally decided to ditch the razor and let her body hair grow out. She has also launched a photographic series, 'Lavender', to proudly display her chest hair in self-portraits and encourage other women to love themselves. You can

Im literally so hairy too, it affected my confidence so much when i was young. I remember in middle school, my lower back had grown a lot of hair, and i was sitting in class and my shirt rode up and this boy behind me literally yelled out -EWWW SHES SO HAIRY, that-s disgusting! - and literally was badgering me and calling other people to look. I was so embarrassed. That guys been in and out of jail for years, starting in HS, so lets just say i didnt hold too long to being shamed by him. Having hair on my breasts, chin, chest, butt and back and ofc on my arms and legs. It made me feel so less feminine. But as i got older i realized im not even that hairy. I just have hair in places people wouldnt expect from a woman but it-s literally not bad at alllll. When youre young things feel so magnified. And i realized ALOT of women also grow hair in these places like me they were just trained to shave it. Societal imagery really affects us

I'm a brunette, and quite hairy, and each to their own, and if that's what she wants to do good for her, all that being said my personal opinion on it is i don't think it looks very nice/attractive/feminine at all, and it ruined the whole look of the outfit!
Also noticed some people arguing in the comments just because guys have said they don't like it, well that is their prerogative, that look is not going to appeal to many men i don't think realistically, i asked my partner and he said hell no, lol but he certainly doesn't care if i miss shaving my legs here and there, but he said this was to much!
In general i think men like to feel soft smooth skin on a woman, not hairy skin, but like i said before if that's how she wants to live, good for her!

It-s amazing how the culture of our society affects us. Body hair is more natural than shaving, yet in western culture, being hairless everywhere but your head and eyebrows is a sign of grooming for a woman.
Going against culture will always get you looks, but shaving is really a societal thing more than anything else. I wonder where it started.
Anyways, if she decides not to follow it, her choice. I admire her confidence, because it really isn-t easy to flaunt something that isn-t deemed acceptable.

I know the focus is the chest hair issue but damn she has a hell of a gorgeous head of hair -. It's fuller than the amazon rain forest -. Maybe she just has genes or gene expressions that give her thick bountiful hair to the point that it shows up in other parts (that are considered undesirable) -

Nice family and nice message! Be you and be free. Beauty standards and traditions come and go, you can join them or not, that's up to each person. This is non-related but I noticed that all 3 siblings look nothing alike, they all 3 look like from different countries, very diverse genetics.

You-re not being provocative at all. You are glowing with confidence. Good for you! You-re a beautiful woman! All women need to love the body they have. Beauty comes in all different colors, shapes, sizes, textures, etc. -Being your true self, that-s what beautiful is! -

Well, I have one stray hair that grows on the bottom of my boob. When I notice it, I snatch it! Lol my husband doesn-t even know about it. I don-t think he would feel any way about it, but I do! With that being said, this woman is a confident Superwoman!

WILL Y'ALL TELL MY PEOPLE how many tribes are MELANATED who are NOT our Kinsfolk!
MOAB/AMMON are melanated HIRSUTES, not at all smooth-skinned like Jacob's people.
We call that taco meat, it is foreign to my stock

She's a stunner
It's incredible how much we shape our appearance based off what other people think. I have hair on my chest I'm white. I choose to shave it because that is what I'm comfortable with.

she is really beautiful, sometimes you don't know a thing is beautiful until you see open in public, amazing girl yes you're taken the definition of beauty to the true meaning, health, and self-love

I am a fairly hairy woman and stopped shaving in 2020 because I began a journey of true self love. I also want other women to see me live in my truth and hopefully embrace their own.

Somethings are to be kept covered if you want to keep you body hairs fine but when you decide to expose yourself in public don't get offended when others critcise you or give their opinion
reply

Chest hair or not, you are beautiful with or without it. I wish I had 5% confidence/ self esteem like you. You can't live your life to please society, live your life to make yourself happy -
reply

You're beautiful as you are. Keep your commitment to keep yourself as you are. The hell what others think. Believe me, there are many men that prefer natural romen and I am one of them.

I love how supporting her family is. Beauty is really cultural. What is beautiful today and in one place of the world will be regarded as ugly in another place of the world.

Personally as a Man I shave my chest hair as I like a smooth chest but if she doesn't mind hers more power to her I just don't like it or think it's attractive on me!

If you were in Africa trust me, most men in my country love hairy women it's like a thing among the black community, love yourself, accept yourself and live beautifully

If I had a hairy chest i would be waxing on a daily, no if ends or butt about it. She's a stronger woman than I am that's for sure. -

I have PCOS so I totally get it. I do wax mine but honey there are days when I'm like oh well it will show today.

Embrace your true beauty, nothing is wrong with that. Most of us do what we do because of society may think and say.
reply

Society has made me over time unable to justify this look. I'm sorry it's horrendous to me. I could -never! -
