LAST TIME Jam featured on Born Different, she was learning how to walk again. But now, she is thriving. Jam was born with lymphedema-distichiasis syndrome, which causes extreme swelling in her legs. She was bed-ridden for almost four years after her leg swelled to 150lbs because of an infection and underwent life changing surgery. In the three years since Truly filmed with her, Jam met her boyfriend, Tim, and celebrated her sister, Jasmine, getting married. Jam also recently celebrated her 30th birthday and will be doing a photoshoot to mark this milestone. She said: -I have definitely developed more confidence in myself and I-m more eager to get out there and help and inspire others

Congrats on walking again and happy belated birthday! It's so awesome that you're up and about and celebrating life! Ignore the negative comments. Those people haven't been in your shoes. I doubt they're as brave and resilient as you are. I wish you and your family the best of health and happiness! I hope being able to walk again will allow you to get your life back to how you want it to be and that the concert is/was awesome!

Hey talking about the joy of just going out and feeling pretty and getting some pictures taken was so relatable. But then you think about the significance of that to her knowing she has just turned 30 when she wasn-t sure she would ever walk or God forbid even get there at all. Pretty amazing.

It runs in our family too, but in a milder way. It gets bad only if we don't exercise enough or drink enough water. When my mom was elderly, it got really bad for her. Have you tried the Sequential Lymphedema Pump? I heard it's a big help!
reply

Lymphodema is hard enough. But you made it harder on yourself by being obese. Why did you do that? Ive seen normal women with lymphodema legs and while they are huge they are always smaller than that because the extra fat matters.

I m glad your not letting this stop you getting out and about they and eat a bit more healthy I know you can't lose lympodema but you can try to lose weight around your stomach so you won't have to carry top weight as well

My grandmother was diagnosed with lymphedema in her 70s as a side effect of her cancer treatment.
Thanks for sharing your story. I wasn't aware of the genetic predisposition to lymphedema.

Lymphoedema is not a fat person disease but it is a desease that is more debilitating if you are very overweight, as she is.

I don't believe that she is born this way! Better say she ended up this way after eating the wrong things!
