30-year age gap & pregnant - selfish? - my extraordinary family

MARRIED couple Larry and Mindy have been called selfish for having a baby with their age gap. 60-year-old Larry already has a child and had a vasectomy over 25 years ago. His now 30-year-old wife Mindy was okay with that but a month before they got married she changed her mind and decided she does want children. After failed procedures, the couple had a successful round of IVF and are expecting their first child together. However, when they decided to share the news online they received a lot of judgement for it. Trolls have labelled them selfish because they think Larry will pass away before their child grows up. Mindy says: We live in the moment. We-re not naive in that way but you can die at a young age

I've read the commentaries of people with old dads. They talk about the pain of watching their dads pass away. It is a sincere and valid point. But the reality is that nothing guarantees that a young father will not die. Young people die in many ways: illness, falling in the shower, car accidents, getting food poisoning, suicide, etc. Also, some mention old dads can't participate in some activities because of their lack of energy. Another valid point, but can't they play cards, board games, fish, and watch dramas with their kids? There are a lot more activities old parents can do to spend quality time with their children, to create good memories. Some people think that having kids in old age is selfish. I still think is not, is a blessing.

I remember this couple! I'm so happy they were finally able to have a baby! Very sweet couple. My parents also have a huge gap like this couple. I have a very old father and so his health hasn't been the best; yes there are worries that he might not be around much longer but I love my father and make the best out of everything while he's still here with us. I'm 26, brother is 21 and younger sister is 12. My mom is in her early 50s and father is in his late 80s. Basically 30 years apart. In the end we're all still a loving family. Its all that matters to us and we'll make every moment worth to remember. We live through the moment and just have to move forward.

Isn-t it also irresponsible to bring up a child in war times, or in a financial or climatic crisis? Isn-t it also not beneficial if the parents are young and inexperienced or don-t have much time caring for the child and a stable family life because both are working all day? Isn-t it also selfish to bring up a child whilst having a risky job (police, firefighters, soldiers, security, military etc) or a risky job in terms of financial instability like being self-employed?
reply

Yeah, of course it's selfish and shortsided but there are many positive reasons why the child will benefit from the arrangement, as well. A emotionally and physically present, loving Dad will give this child a great start. If they're even more fortunate, he'll have many healthy years ahead, his son will have a brother that will hopefully be a father figure, and Mom is youthful enough to move on when Dad passes away. It's not ideal but neither is life.

My dad was 20 years older than my mom. He was the best dad in the world. He died when I was 19 from a lung disease, but I couldn't have had a better dad than him. My parents loved each other very much. For me personally, 10 years apart max is the most I would do. My husband is 6 years apart from me and I met him when I was 19. We've been married for 7 together for 10 years already.

I don't think it's selfish. My father was born in 1897; I was born in 1960; now in 2023 a 33year old friend would love to create a baby with me. I enjoyed my father for 24 years and never once thought he was selfish. He was a great man; husband, father, community leader and contributor to society. I am very happy, grateful and proud of my father who was 63 when I was born.

Why someone just judge them? They love each other. And they will be a best parents cause they have their baby in difficult way to get baby in their life. And nobody knows that who is going to death first. Birth has orders. But the death doesn't have it. And it is the society doesn't matter how old are you. Don't be scared of getting old like whem you are scared in young age.
reply

Why judge people who are inlove and want children? I don't care about the age difference- what's important is love. Some younger couples bring kids into dysfunction and they are not judged. I'm glad the doner sperm didn't work but the husband's sperms succeeded for the obvious reasons. A product of love. - wish you all the best.

Men, Aristotle establish that the prime age for a woman is 18 and for a man 37 assuming he has gotten his stuff together. They don't call it father time for no reason. If Society wants to lessen this they need to start shaming younger women to pick their one and get out of the dating Market because 20s men have little to no choice

I love Mindy and Larry. Anyone can die at anytime! The time we spend together is what matters. Making memories, taking photos. Videos. Im I-m age gap to but I could die before my husband who is older. I truly believe having loving and supportive parents is what matters for a child regardless of age.

My father was 51 when I was born (I-m 25 now) and as a child my classmates always used to tell me my grandpa is here to pick me up and I would just say he-s my dad and they would say oh! Haha, fun memories. I now do everything I can to take care of him -

I can understand all the different perspectives on the matter. People think of older fathers and think of little life to live left. Nowadays, that's not entirely true. I've seen many younger people die suddenly and old people enduring till they are 90.

That -surprise- even though she never had a direct fertility issue. The issue being Larry was known so I wonder why she put on such a big act - She is young and healthy, what did she expect?
Oh and Liam is almost 1yo and still never met Bruce.

Had a sperm donor who bailed who was the so-called -right age. -
Would take a dad who eas in his 50s pr more when I was born but was a dad or, even better, pop to me and bowed out to old age in my 30s or so ANY day over what I had (or didn't)

What guarantees a younger father will watch their kid grow up? My husband died 4. 5 yrs ago at the age of 46 when our kids were 14 and 16. People who are judgemental to any relationship be it age gap or not are basically just jealous.

As of this post, Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro just became dads again at 83 and 80, respectively.
And in 2021, music producer David Foster (then 72) fathered a kid with singer Katherine McPhee (then 37)

I mean, yeah, if you-re going to get roasted on the Internet, because let-s be for real almost everyone who uses the Internet or all children, teenagers, and basically young people

So this is a problem becoming a dad at 60? But if he was wearing dress and was convinced he was a chick. you all would be happy for him. What a wacky world we live in.
reply

Women, grow some self-esteem and seek treatment for your outstanding daddy issues. Find your own job, earn money in your own right, then find a man in your own age range.
reply

My dad was 37 when I was born, and people thought he was my grandpa growing up. I guess because he had gray hair? So it also happens to people younger than you, Larry -
reply

I had an older dad. I was 29 when he died. I had the best dad ever. It May have been a short time but I wouldn't change it. Miss him loads-wish you both the very best-

my friend-s dad is in his 70s and she-s only 29. she doesn-t seem to mind it at all. she was raised right and loves her father, that-s all that matters.
reply

The fact is if two people are happy with each other. There is no right or wrong answer. What matters the most is they have genuine connection!
reply

My dad was 50 and mom was 47 when I was born. People have mistaken my parents for my grandparents before. It has never bothered me.
reply

Age doesn-t matter- he could outlive most fathers that are younger. He has a ton of time he can spend with this baby.

Im Happy for you! Im 53 and my girlfriend is 22. Being Happy is what life-s about! All the Power to the both of you!

If you're happy, who cares what others think, its not their life. If they don't like it, see you later.
reply

I'm not worried about the age gap, but i do feel concerned about kids growing up in a family always on camera.
