Spectacled Cobra vs Saw Scaled Viper - which snake is striking to bite every time? Watch this amazing Slow Mo footage to find out. Voyage: I've watched the entire documentary which is about snakebites in India where the most morbidity is recorded annually. The four culprits include the Russell's viper, Indian cobra, saw scaled viper & the common krait.
Cobras are indeed very intelligent. They don't wanna waste their venom on sth they cannot eat, thus often delivering dry bites (or bites without fatal quantities of venom) or even close-mouth hit.
Russell's viper & saw scaled viper are relatively silent defenders, unlike cobras which have pretty manifest defense postures. Vipers tend to stand for their ground rather than moving away because of their physiology thus reluctance. Therefore, vipers are more likely to deliver fatal bites than elapids (which include cobras) since people are more likely to unintentionally step on them, startling the snake.
This documentary reveals that the larger of the two vipers ---- Russell's viper sometimes also delivers dry bites while the smaller saw scaled viper is the true aggressor here. This is the most interesting fact I learnt from it. The saw scaled viper has more potent venom as well with a higher LD50 toxicity level.
I don't know much about the krait, but its nasty venom which is the most powerful among the four species causing the most snakebites annually.

I live in Sri Lanka this is quite true in reality as well. Ive encountered people who had very close run ins with Cobras but if you havent stepped on it or made it very obvious threat they rarely bite you. on the other hand Russels Viper and Saw Scale Vipers are ultra aggressive, they sometimes chase you over to bite you. Some can coil up and jump a fair bit of distance too. very dangerous

At 0: 54 they said this is a smallish cobra, a female. Males in the snake world are smaller then females almost always. Makes sense, I mean they have to be large enough to carry eggs

i dont care what you think, but that foot looked too real to be fake. if you were to make a fake foot it would be perfect, not marks and scars all over it.

The sawscale looks like a cute little baby snake. I wonder if thats why many of the bite victims are children. thinking theyve found a friendly new pet.

in tamil we call the cobra a nalla pambu (good snake literally) and it kinda fits as he only bites when he's really threatened
