The concept is interesting, as it is the real world. Ideology and personal preference does shape and mold social views or trends. It has been said that when you are born at the bottom, it's not that you can't get to the top. It's that others will keep you at the bottom because if you were to rise out of your lower social class, you might bump someone out from the upper class so you can get in. There's not enough room for everyone anywhere or everywhere, that's just how real life can be.

There's a bit of an issue with racial wealth inequality comparing the medians-it actually undersells the story. The median quintile doesn't really own much in any racial group, so comparing median white wealth to median black wealth doesn't communicate the severity of the gap. This is where mean is the appropriate tool: the mean wealth gap between white and black folks is quite a lot more than the median wealth gap, since nearly all wealth is concentrated in the top quintile and above.

ok but I have a question. How is it fair to put say myself who is one person and I make 20, 000 a year. I feel like I have plenty of money and low cost of living. vs. a family of 4 who lives on 20, 000 a year who struggle to get by. How are we both in the same boat? i feel like they should make the income based on per person and not per household. Having dependents changes a lot

In crash course sociology videos, the ending music starts early. I think it is kind of disrespectful towards the host. As a veviewer, I struggle a little concentrating on the last bits of the script, usually the part which includes the summary of that weeks video. In overall I find the videos well prepared and useful. Thanks.

Just want to say, income will always be positively skewed. It makes sense when you consider that there is no upper bound, but there will always be a lower bound ($0. This means that the outliers or the extremes will always skew the data heavily.
I'm just thinking of this from a statistician perspective.

-I'm perfectly fine about a doctor making more money than I am. - So am I, that makes sense, but let's say your income is more than 600 000$ per year, WHY DO YOU SO DESPERATELY NEED SO MUCH MONEY? I'd have literally no idea what I could do to make use of that if not throwing it at poor people.

I'd like some clarification, please. When you say: -even if you control for income- what do you mean by that?
Is the sociologist who make that control? If so, what kind of control is it?
I'm loving these videos so far! They've been really helpful to understand a lot of things.

At 6: 35 the chart shown has a typo I realized. Took me three times watching the video though to notice it lol. It say -AMREICAN- instead of -AMERICAN-. Regardless doesn-t effect the information, still a great video just wanted to point it out

I've known this about how inequality works for many years now. It makes perfect sense that a racial group that was ostracized in the last two hundred years is inheriting less whilst whites in the US are obtaining the blood money.

Skilled occupations like Electrician are getting reduced wages. An electrician could make 45. 00 an hour ten years ago; now its less than 20. 00/hour. People are forced to work multiple jobs even those who have skilled jobs.
