Can A Thousand Tiny Swarming Robots Outsmart Nature?

How does a group of animals -- or cells, for that matter -- work together when no ones in charge? Tiny swarming robots--called Kilobots--work together to tackle tasks in the lab, but what can they teach us about the natural world? More info, videos, and sources below

Emergent behavior (the idea of order from chaos) is supposed to explain the origins of life? Note that the every model (computer simulation or real bots) that tests and reveals these unanticipated patterns always involves some kind of preprogrammed nodal entity. Matter (and its interaction with energy) doesnt behave that way. Methods of rigorous conditioning and purposeful reconstructing (systemization) is necessary in order to cause matter to organize and behave unnaturally (i. e. those little robots or even organic life! This is an empirically proven fact in real world applied sciences (i. e. manufacturing: from macro to nano scales. Entropy (respecting the quantum properties of matter-energy) cannot give rise to unnatural dynamism seen in organic life! The complexity of a snowflake is pretty (pretty useless in terms of functionality, but a cell is truly a wonder of integrated functionality and the schoolmaster of the most ambitious nanotech engineers! A new book scientifically debunks emergent behavior as an explanation for the existence of life! Its called Return of the God Hypothesis (by Stephen Meyer! Dare to think for yourself! When you do, youll see the ridiculousness of this video!

Outsmart nature? Not possible. nature is much too complex and erroneous and in it that lies the secret of evlolution. these tiny errors manifest into tools of adaptability. robots, be it swarm or soft or anything have a long way to go. even then i doubt they can beat nature. to make robots more intelligent or lifelike we need to mimic nature. and we are trrying to use materials that are similar to life. in trying these things we are actually wanting nature to make these artificial things a part of nature. so in other words we are not trying to eliminate nature. we are trying to expand it. so no the aim is not to beat nature.

I hate robots.
Humans want so hard to be like God that they are frustrated at the idea they cannot create a living thing out of nothing so they take metal parts and try to create something that does what they want.
But once you create robots that are smaller than cells, you put yourself at risk. And that's what we've done with smart dust.
And of course those in control of that technology are not your average good christian.

Here's my theory about cells with them working together like in a human, dog, chipmunk you name it. They work together so like the immune system they fight Intruders and risk their life for you just so then you can grow and make them reproduce they can't reproduce without you so they help you survive is what I'm trying to say
reply

Wow really those robots are pre programmed to do those task and you're trying to tell me that order rises out of chaos the same way those robots did those tasks bull they are programmed to do it just like our cells are pre programmed to change just like we are programmed we are created not evolved

This is the best weapon. You make these self-replicate, teach them to tickle people and eat electronics to make more, and you have the most harmless weapon of mass destruction. Yes, no way this could go wrong.
Wasn't there a game or movie about that?

It's cool to see this, I've always wanted to build such tiny robots, but with ordrinary equipment like arduino it is very difficult and/or expensive; ) It really amazing how they interact and how nature can be simulated by this!

What's the robots THINKING?
Robot: stand up soldiers! Get ready! For war!
Robots: yes sir! Robots stand up
Humans: umm is this what it DO?
Me: watching this video
Ummm what is going on!

Read Michael Chrieghton's Prey and then you'll be way more scared of these microscopic bots programmed to use predator tactics to accomplish tasks then you thought you were of Terminators.

So basically your telling people there is no God. Meanwhile you defeat your point by acting on Gods behalf with robots using Gods nature. See how self defeating your arrogance is?
reply

Ya just had to add that part at the end where they take over and kill us all. And people ask me why the ASIMO terrified me (and teleported pee into my pants)

Anyone else reminded of the little space ship aliens from
batteries not included. Now there's a childhood memory. Loved Jessica Tandy & Hume Cronwyn

2: 20, does anyone have any sort of article or research paper that can give me more information on the algorithm behind them synchronizing?
reply

I want to be a scientists. But in the same time I'm afraid of being a scientists because I'm worried we will create something we will regret
reply

Killabot simple robot that don't do anything: ''Programmed''
Nature most complex thing we can imagine: ''just evolution and luck fam''

reply

all I can really say is thanks matpat for directing me to this ideo, and thank ou gys for helping me with my EPQ. the link is very helpful!
reply

thats so cool! but id still like to say, no matter how hard we try, we can never outsmart nature, the very thing that created us
reply

But do they move by vibrating themselves across the table? Because I don't see any wheels or even any thing that moves an object.
reply

if they could fly, I need 1000s of these to kill the mosquitoes in my house! And then sleep a better life with sweet dreams!
reply

So you're comparing these robots to real cells? If so, you are programming the robots, then who is programming the real cells?
reply

A kilo bot is simple it can cauculate light, measure distance without ruler and sense other robots
Me: flaberghasted

reply

when u have enough money to make this instead of just running a simple sim and attach harvard. drone swarms are way cooler.
reply

The legs are like thin sewing needles and they use vibration to move simple but, how do they work together?
reply

Yeah give it a pyscho killer theme to make look like mass psychos. You could have given a optimistic theme to it
