They may look serene as they glide across the surface of a stream, but don't be fooled by water striders. They're actually searching for prey for whom a babbling brook quickly becomes an inescapable death trap

I've been getting into the devil fruit ideas from the anime One Piece
And when it comes to the Zoan types, just imagine being a human water strider, u could do way more then just walk on water, perhaps do something like an major ice skating contest

Argh! It's a mayfly and not a caddisfly. Guess I was moving to fast on this one. The creek is full of caddisfly larvae and I assumed incorrectly that the adult was one too. Thanks for the catch. Glad you like the episode otherwise. - JoshC

Me expecting a wholeome video about water striders actually trying to save other drowning bugs only to find out they liquify the organs of drowning bugs and suck them out through a straw
This is Halloween appropriate.

Watched your water bugs video. Remembered about water striders. Searched for the first video that came up. Ended up here.
When I was child, managed to catch one. That's when I learned that they bite!

walking in water well yes, but no. They basically only float. Basilisk Lizarda though actually do run on water, they are really magical, unlike ugly wack ass water striders.
reply

Fun Fact: male Water Striders will sometimes coerce female Water Striders to stop resisting their mating advances by causing vibrations in the water to attract predators.
reply

I mean com on theyre literally walking on water but that's obviously more bull$hit since there wasnt even one instant in your video that showed them walking on water

Yeah when it's at my house it scares the heck out of me Why is scares me because it has creepy long arms and I need to take a poop but I'm too scared to do it

You can make a water strider out of 6 strands of very small wire and it will float, the wire doesn't trap air, it just uses the surface tension of the water.
reply

Imagine wanting to go to the beach to take a nice swim but can't because your own body won't allow itself to break the surface tension of the water.

What if you tried to remove these bugs from their watery habitat and set them down onto dry land? How would they be able to get around then?
reply

Thanks to your video on hairworms, I have a sneaking suspicion about what that cricket was doing in the water and I don't like it! Lol

As a kid I would try to smash them by throwing rocks in the water. They are so hard to smash! they live in the matrix.

The water striders simply can't get wet
Me: empties a glass of water on them
You're not so dry now, are you?

reply

This Is Why Water Striders Make Terrible Lifeguards.
Because they dont care whether you live or die.

reply

I wish having hair could help humans float. My brother in law would hardly get wet! Id float pretty good too.

Narrator: does their job well
Me: any way you could be much more british, far older and a man please?

reply

They probably make terrible accountants as well. Should we list all the jobs they wouldn't be good at?
reply
