When predators attack, daddy longlegs deliberately release their limbs to escape. They can drop up to three and still get by just fine Skarlet: For those judging the persons who made the insect drop it's legs. I really, really hope you guys never killed a spider, ant, mosquito, fly or any kind of insect! Because if you did, who are you to judge people who are doing it with no deliberate cruelty to a being without feelings or sensitivity ('cuz yes, unless you were in real danger from a bug, your chancla attack still counts as cruelty to a being who meant you no harm, but with the intention of scientific disclosure?

Hey! Its been 5 years since you posted this but this is the first time I've come across this video! I have a question, and I hope you still monitor these kind of things. I read in a book that a type of daddy longleg's feet never stop growing, so they have to bite them off to keep it under control. The web search does nothing for me because it can't understand my question, but since you guys are smart, I'm asking you!

I just wanna say, I know english is notoriously bad at naming things, but seriously here you've hit the jackpot. This name is so ridiculous and uselessly overcomplicated.
In France the common name for them is faucheux, which translates to reapers. Not only is it way more badass, it's simpler and can't be as easily mistakenly used to describe every single long legged spider there is.

You know, usually things capable of autotomy can also regrow lost limbs. Lizards do it with their tails, crabs and lobsters do it with their claws, starfish do it with their. well everything. But I never thought a creature could so nonchalantly lose something they'll never recover. I was under the assumption that longlegs grew their legs back.

Let's make one thing clear. The spider didn't lose its leg and They didn't pull the leg. (pfff) They Forced him to cut it off. I'm not in animal safety protecting thingy organization but in this case I support their zealot members. Reported this video for animal abuse by the way.

Daddy longlegs are not spiders
That's only partially accurate. Daddy longlegs ca refer to either the cellar spider, which IS a spider, or the harvestman, which is the mite shown here. Some have also incorrectly used it to refer to the mosquito hawk, which isn't even an arachnid.

Still no info regarding the two different Daddy Long Legs. The short mentioned that there are two different creatures, one west coast and one easy coast, called Daddy Long Legs. So whats the differences between them and why are they both labeled the same?

127 hours, he would have dreamed for this kind of feature, instead of that it took him a long and painful hour to self amputate his arm by breaking his bones and cutting skin and tendons with a shallow multi usage knife: x

The cellar spider is also called Daddy Long Legs and they're spiders.
You also have the flying daddy long legs which is a fly with long legs
Then you have the harvestman that is called daddy long legs.

Daddy Longlegs scientist on another planet where they're the dominant species: and you can see, if we rip off the human's leg it just learns to hop, and in time constructs a new leg for itself out of wood.

There was one in my bathroom last night. It was up by my sink and when it saw me it jumped, or fell to the floor. Then it scurried behind the toilet and was gone. Its why Im here checking out info on them.
reply

I thought they were spiders too oh
I'm still wandering why they lose their limbs even though they can't regenerate them because in nature it is best to lose body parts if you can regenerate them

I am scared to death of daddy longlegs, though not of most other arachnids. I'm gradually exposing myself to videos and images of them and this video was super fascinating and helpful

Now you've taken most of it's leg's off doesn't matter if they feel no pain or they can grow back you've made it's life even more difficult it's not humane at all it's old soooo cringe
reply

daddy longlegs are not spiders!
Oh you're talking about harvestmen
Would've been cool to mention as an asside that daddylongleg spiders (aka cellar/carpenters) are spiders

reply

They don't use the front 2 legs for walking.
They only walk on 6 legs
Cut to them removing the front leg and he stumbles all over the place and face plants.
lolwut?

im just here to appreciate the fact that there is an animal called Daddy Long Legs probably the silliest name in the entire animal kingdom and im here for it

I couldnt finish the video because I am horribly afraid of spiders (please dont judge me) but I have to say; does this remind anyone of Poppy Playtime?
reply

Its painful the amount of people that confuse crane flies, cellar spiders and harvestmen because of their shared nickname daddy long legs

Daddy long legs are actually an arachnid cell spider that is poisonous but, it's fangs are to small to bite you.
