Their skeletons are prized by beachcombers, but sand dollars look way different in their lives beneath the waves. Covered in thousands of purple spines, they have a bizarre diet that helps them exploit the turbulent waters of the sandy sea floor. Please follow us on Patreon!

Turns out, takes a lot of work to lay around
I hear ya mate, a lot of times just trying to laze around is more work than people think and just say Why don't you just do X, Y, and Z so you can laze around? and to them i say that's not the point

That explains all the pores on the surface of sand dollars! Thank you, I found a sand dollar on the beach several years ago, and I have been wondering about the hundreds (thousands) of tiny holes ever since.

My uncle once found a live sand dollar by sticking his hand straight down into the ocean! (terrible idea, I know) But he didnt let it die, and let it back into the ocean after taking some pictures

But I noticed some sand dollar skeletons have some long cucumber shaped holes around the edges vertically.
Plus I saw a decorator crab at the end of this he video

. the skeletons of their relatives, like starfish and sea urchins.
But. none of these creatures have skeletons. They don't even have bones.

Tube feet and 1000s of spines then there's a tiny mouth underneath? I'll never look at a sand dollar the same again. Those lil urchins are so cool!

1: 52 lets be honest its looks like a marijuana leaf but without the spiky look like a maple or it looks like a maple leaf but round ends

Im wondering if these urchins have any brains or do they just go with the flow like star fish do, cause they dont have any brain at all.

Can't make this up. but my eyesight's so bad, I thought the thumbnail depicted the hand of a priest holding a sacramental bread.

I like to think, that somewhere within the DNA sequence of the sand dollar, lies the exact code to construct a r = sin (5x) graph.
reply

Fun fact: That five point body plan is called radial symmetry. Humans and other mammals have bilateral symmetry.

I never knew these things existed. I love sea urchins but somehow didn't know these are also urchins. I love them.

Now I need to find out if sand dollars can be attracted by magnets. Im serious, this is keeping me up at night

Not only can your cameraman hold their breath for a really long time, but they can shrink on demand as well!
