3 and not 4 or 5 is mainly for stability, not complexity. Yeah, a 3 legged stool is simpler to build than a 4 legged chair, but notice how on a stool if one leg is slightly shorter it won’t wobble. The wobble thing is the main reason for 3 phases too.
4 phases at 90 degree has 2phases at 180. Meaning if the load is unbalanced on one phase, that phase counterpart will have more available energy, making the generator go faster for that leg and wobble, exactly like a 4 legged chair does. A 3 phase system is more resilient to that.

The video misses a very relevant point.
In a single or dual phase system the power always shows an inherent ripple at twice the mains frequency.
In a three phase system with well balanced load, the power of the three phases combined can have essentially zero ripple.
And thus three phase motors deliver a torque that has no 100 or120Hz ripple.
Similarly, in traditional fluorescent lighting systems a 100 or 120Hz light ripple can be avoided, preventing stroboscopic effects.

I think the big three automakers in the US rested on their laurels for far too long before aggressively engineering new EV models. They let Tesla just exist without paying too much attention until it was too late. IMHO foreign ICE automakers have better EV options than those big three. Given the history of these companies I think they’ve been chasing an American dream that is long gone now, everyone’s moved on and they fail to make any meaningful money.

Our instructors with the Independent Electrical Contractors school love showing your VFD video in class. I’ve seen it twice now from them, probably another 5 times on my own haha
I would love a video explaining why we, at least in the U. S, refer to 480 and 208 as single phase when it’s connected using only two separate phases. I think I understand why

I have to watch this later, energy will come in the form of plasma, starting with magnetics a rotation is built! Many ways to alter different courses! Me a magnetic iron core and copper tubing now can you make voltage leaving the explanation of electron transfer i just to tired cheers love all your videos thanks

Great explanation as an electrical engineer it makes more sense than those books. Btw can u make video on how did you made that 3 Phase generator or motor which is 0: 27 0: 28 0: 29 here. I've seen your video of making DC motor, now I'm excited to see how did you made that motor

As always perfectly explained! Can you consider continuing the videos on motors, electronic components and others with videos on technologies such as the synchronous motor, capacitors and types, Lithium ion batteries and others I think they'll be great!

Literally just started learning about three phase electricity the other week. AI has been very helpful with answering questions i had (which checks out with info from this video) but this video also helped me answer questions i never knew I'd want to ask.

I'm working at this really ambitious startup where I have to use this knowledge. So learning from engineering mindset is actually so useful for me. I believe you are truly shaping the world with this amazing knowledge. Thank you!

The wye vs delta comparison around 8: 00 is where this really clicked - seeing the same generator wired two different ways makes it obvious why three-phase smooths out the power ripple that single-phase can't.

This is the first video that actually allowed me to understand AC power. I really just never understood it no matter how many times it was explained to me. Fantastic job on the writing and animation of this!

Of course you do not see the led flickering. A Light Emitting Diode (L. E. D) is a Direct Current (DC) device. There is a switching power supply built into the base of the L. E. D. light bulb!

Why is Y spelled Wye The shape is a Y. This would also help in languages other than English where Wye doesn't mean anything but the localised name for Y is immediately evocative of the shape.

In Brazil we have 2 (major) standards for the, 127V and 220V. The good thing about this is that 220V 127sqrt(3) so any appliance made for 220V can be used in a 127V grid.

The delta XFMR can supply 1. 73 times supply (square root of 3)more current than a wye XFMR but the wye can supply 1. 73 times more voltage than a delta XFMR.

Can you explain if/how a diesel generator can vary its speed of the engine based on demand but still have 60 Hz even at different RPM’s

This is great as I’m going into 3rd year electrician courses soon and it’s all focused around 3 phase. Perfect timing.
