People assume that HAME is short for HAMETSU (destruction, but no official sources say this.
Also, KAME is written using kana rather than kanji, which means it also doesnt necessarily mean that KAME would translate to Turtle.
HA however is accurate, its written using kanji for -wave-.
All in all, the accurate translation would be -kamehame wave. -

Fun fact:
The creator of the series, Akira Toriyama, was extremely hands-off with the franchise after the ending of the original manga series, not really paying any mind to what the franchise did without his supervision. After Dragon Ball Evolution was released to being a terrible movie, it was _so bad_ that it inspired Toriyama to come back to the series and regain control of it, resulting in the sequel series Dragon Ball Super being made.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Asian (unlicensed, I might add) Dragon Ball movies are just as bad if not worse. They only loosely follow the story of the manga, are extremely cheaply made, and are obviously meant to just be cash grabs. At least Chow Yun-fat and James Marsters were fans who put their all into their performance.

Wait. Gohan didn-t yet achieved the super saiyan form until android/cell saga, he was trained by Goku (in hyperbolic time chamber preparing for cell game) to achieved that form, and achieved his super saiyan 2 form after seeing android 16 killed by cell and got angry
