Why Egypt Is Building a New Capital City

The president inflated the economy just so he can speed up building of the new capital. Now, you cant import cars or trade dollars with the government cuz of the severe lack of dollars. Black market increased the price by 33%, and Egypt faces a second homeless crisis and a second hunger crisis in only a year. All the vacation areas are empty due to the lack of tourism and the lack of money with Egyptians to go anyways. Due to the Sudanese war tons of people fled to Egypt only to screw the homeless crisis even more and overpopulation of course. Ethiopia build a dam for the Nile river which will turn it to just dirt. The air pollution is worse because they have started taking water from the seas but there is a monorail being built for the traffic problem. There is also a teacher shortage of around 350k where people who volunteer get only 20 egp (0. 5 usd in the black market. Businesses are shutting down. Engaged couple delay marriages and newlyweds either get divorced because of yet again the lack of money. I can go on and on about what is happening here but I wont please ask any questions if you want.

Title should be changed to why Sisi not egypt is building this amidst poverty, rampant illitracy and heavy debt! Nexus between UAE, Israel and the egyptian army snuffed any democratic aspirations each for their own obvious reasons. Army cause corruption. Israel cause egypt rising is its nightmare without which they can keep Palestinians subjegated. UAE afraid of spread of democracy to gulf and domino effect also afraid of free economic zones in suez canal which renders theirs like Jabal Ali futile. West is happy to give these theives loans cauae those are chains that will control and subjegate egypt renessance forever and drag it backwards. Remmember Britain could occupied egypt cause the king at the time drowned egypt in loans and Britain claimed the suez canal when he couldn't pay up. History repeated.

So in Egyptian math, they make an octagon, with ten buildings. As long as your just speculating as to why they are building it, how do you not consider at all the trouble they had controlling citizenry during the Arab Spring? I mean, Tahrir Square was the center of those demonstrations that went on for a very long time. Their inability to control the masses of people is probably a large factor in designing something new, before the next set of demonstrations.

I kind of get that they have to build a new city, but why does it have to look like a dictators wet dream and be so insanely wasteful.
This waste of recourses and disregard for the poor population is the recipe for another revolution.
EDIT: I informed myself more, and how is there not a single critical comment in neos report. This project is the batshit crazy vision of a dictator and is already running out of money.

Instead of investing in public transport and improving other things that would reduce congestion and improve lives of ordinary people, they're building another city so elite doesn't have to walk among ordinary people in dirty Cairo.
The purpose of it isn't to improve lives of the people. The purpose is to improve lives of selected few at the expense of everyone else.

national capital cities are always very congested making governmental processes slow down. australia has already had canberra their national capital quite a ways away from other cities with hardly any congestion. the junta in myanmar did the same in myanmar but with less useful results. indonesia has already been building a whole new city in a totally different area.

The reality is all the land next to the Nile River should be for agriculture to provide food for the people all ancient buildings should be preserved and every other building can be built as outliers. why they dont try to renovate its cities. like planned demolition of very old densely populated suburbs and developing infrastructure of city by building metro and trams. also making roads for bicycles and other light carriages. this will decrease the need for cars and allow them to build eco friendly large developed city

We need mega cities in every country in the world, especially in the USA, to lower prices for buying or renting places. Also, to increase housing and jobs. Not by wasting American tax on Rs & Ds' premium free life, why we pay for everything.

this has absolutely nothing to do with real life, we are in desperate need of all of this money to resolve a long standing economic crisis that will not be ended by closing up old factories and businesses, constructing a new lavish fancyland for a fraction of a fraction of the entire population

Yes, but, Cairo-s highways are third world caliber, complete with donkey-drawn carts and Egyptians are the world-s worst drivers. They use the lane dividing lines to center-up their cars! Also, pedestrian crossing are a total crap shoot as to whether the cars will stop.

Looks like a plan to keep government away from the people they're supposed to serve. When Cairo protests, they will no longer be protesting at the gates of their government, because that government will be 30 miles outside the city, safely tucked away and not caring.

I love hearing about these projects. It-s great to hear news like this instead of the constant mentions of war, waste and oil. Those subjects are ever-present in the history of man and it-s much healthier to focus on constructive and creative matters.

Looks great. I hope it works. If you assume the government knows best on planning that far ahead, but I-ve lived through urban renovation planned by government and it didn-t work out so good. But maybe things have advanced since 1965.

My problem with this city is the large distances and reliance on cars. Soon the city will succumb to awful traffic and will become like American cities. Build walkable cities with public transit!
