I love my city more than any other place on earth by far and the new wtc is a beautiful building but its not and never was the tallest building in america. it was barely the tallest building in nyc before being surpassed. spires and antennas dont count. even spires that are able to be habitable or that have actual floors inside shouldnt count but especially those that dont. for me roof height and highest habitable floor is official. im 5'8. if i go by their standards of counting spires then i guess i can tape a pringle can to the top of my head and call myself 6'8. i dont understand why they didn't just make the building 1776 feet to the rooftop or at least 200 feet taller so it'd actually be the tallest. whatever happened to American Spirit of Competition?

Many of these vanity phallic symbols are functionally impotent. They often have trouble filling up their space and when they do it's dysfunctional. In New York the tallest residential skyscrapers have elevators that frequently break down (imagine with having to walk 80 stories worth of stairs or being stuck in an elevator for hours at 1000ft) and to this day Burj Khalifa's septic system relies on a long line of trucks retrieving its sh! t each day because the tower could not be connected to the city's sewage system.

I still think that the highest occupied floor counts as the actual highest point of a building. If you count in the spire then it-s the highest structure. So the highest structure and highest building should be 2 categorie because if a structure with non occupied floors is included in the hight then it should be treated by naming it entirely -non occupation building- because then you are joined with all the highest radio towers too. Because you are acting like one if your hight includes radio signal spires

there is a reason why US and China do not attempt to build the -tallest building- despite their economies and cities has the most reasonable demand for such a building. because they are just not economical, they are a money sink. the taller you go, the more lift you need, the less usable to service space the building has. it is a disminishing return that offers no real world benefit and are only pursuit by 2nd rate power because they need the fame.

And it's not even that they had a lower livable floor, but taller spire. Both were lower than Sears Tower. IIRC the Spears architect didn't want the antenna to count towards the total height, and theirs did. Ergo, they have the highest tower.

All you have to do is just look at it. The Sears Tower is taller in every aspect as compared to the Petronas Tower. Highest pinnacle. Highest roof. Highest useable floor. You'd have to be dumb not to see this. Spires should NEVER be used to measure how tall something is. The scale measurements on the building's are not fully accurate. Petronas towers where actually smaller than the twin towers of the wtc. The top of the ball on the Petronas towers reaches to 406 m. You made them look taller than there are and made the world trade twin towers a bit smaller than they where.

i love tall buildings. I live in utah and I was excited because they are building the new tallest building in SLC right now which is going to be a whopping 451 foot tall building! Nothing compared to other cities!

Real being real, 9/11 put a halt on that for about 10 years, when you make a tall building you gotta consider large fires on tall buildings its almost impossible to manage in steel structures
