My opinion as an architect and urban planner:
The idea is great, the execution not so much. By this, I mean there is so much potential for this to work and change the development of desert landscapes to make them inhabitable, and they go on to make it a glorified cul de sac suburban community.
This needs to be remade into an actual urban area with adequate density, diversified land uses, sectorization to ensure access to primary needs within walkable distances, proper public transportation solutions, public and cultural spaces, parks and all amenities a livable modern city requires. This is a wasted opportunity, they must rethink the model instead of letting it go to waste by making a huge resort.

This video is misguided on the palm tho
The palm-s breakwaters were built with that in mind and they have gaps which constantly allow the circulation of water hence the water isn-t stagnant.
The projects also didn-t destroy any habitat the idea was similar to Kuwait-s and only natural materials were used. This in fact created more habitats instead there-s routine diving tours to them since it attracted fish that aren-t commonly seen in the region

That tidal gate explanation didn't really make sense to me. If the gates are forced closed at low tide, then the water inside the system would be prevented from escaping. That's the exact opposite of a system that flushes all of the water out. What am I missing?

Kuwaiti here. The area have a school and a mall since 2018. Despite the area focusing on residential needs, but they are introducing other aspects.
