We will be having a closer look at USB-C cables and find out why most of them are actually not that great. We will be focusing on 100W power transfer so very fast charging. I will show you how much power loss 13 different USB-C cables produce and why most of them do not meet the standard specs Brian: I am a cell phone technician, I noticed that problem with the quality of the cables, mainly for fast charges, very generic cables affect the charge, it also happens with micro usb. Another thing is also poorly filtered generic chargers, which put electrical noise in the devices, in the case of cell phones they generate a malfunction of the touch! by static and noise from the power source;
Many times I have cut the cables to expose the copper filaments, and yes, they are bad, some do not even have the mesh to cover the cables, and others have very thin cables that do not support the amperage

i'm kinda sad my cable isn't up there which is the (cable matters 100w usb type C cable) even though its on the higher end of cables its still going strong to this day (close to 2 years and is still putting out the same current)which all the ones i've used have lasted less than a year like anker and some of the brands mentioned in this video. personally when it comes to buying a charging cable it isn't the upfront cost its how long it'll last compared with the price point. also what i've tend to have noticed is that the higher the resistance per length is in the cables the shorter it'll last so its gonna give a rough idea what cables are good and cheap all at once; )

Even if your analysys covers only power, is valid also for data.
When I bought my new car it included Android Auto, the seller suggested me to use only vendor supplied USB C cable to connect the phone to the car.
I used off the (amazon) shelf USB C that worked perfectly and had frequent disconnections between phone and car.
After some googling I found that only some high quality USB cables were OK for that task.

To be fair to the cable that claims 6A charge in xiaomi, this protocol is not meant to carry them throught a single wire. I haven't looked into it in detailt, but just like my OnePlus phone, they are using one of the usb 3. 0 wires to carry 3 amps each. So, unless you are tricking the power supply to work at PD 100W, this cable would not be dissipating such a high power and thus wouldn't heat to badly

Lot of the bad (not necessarily cheap) cables use either completely inadequate wire gauges, with only a few strands of copper - or don't use copper wire at all but copper coated aluminium (CCA) wire instead. Which is a lot cheaper compared to copper - and also much worse conductor.
My bet is that the seat heater cable is actually CCA and not copper at all.

yes not all USB-C are made equal. i have some that wont fast charge or not enough power/data to show up on my android auto on my car. i also notice the male input of the USB-C tends to wear out over time, i had to replace my note 10+ USB-C charger port. this was my longest phone i had and put to good amount of use.

I went to a electronics store last week to buy an usb-c cable to charge my phone at work. When i was looking at different options in store, i noticed there was cables labeled as usb-c charge cable and usb-c data cable from same manufacturers. I wonder what was the difference because they looked same.

3: 42 Maybe, this chip is the reason, that while my Realme GT 5G phone happily charging by 65W with its own charger and cable, it can't do the same even with 5A cables? I mean that there is some prorpietary communication what the 3rd party cables don't support.

I have some really heavy duty iniu cables that are 6FT long and have the eMark chip - I took one apart to check. No idea about the resistance though since the most I'll ever be drawing through them is 12V 2. 1 amps, a far cry from their 100w rating.

as the experience shown even shittiest type c cable is way more durable than decent micro USB cable. bought many average type c cables from random sellers and all those work ideally
meanwhile i have tens of broken micro USB cables

That cable with the built-in power meter looks handy! Sometimes the devices settle on a tiny current for some reason, and simply disconnecting and reconnecting fixes it, but normally you don't easily notice the issue.

you should test the cables that come with those 120w charging Xiaomi phone, they recently launched a phone with 210w charging, hope you can cover that too, i would love to see the inside of those cables

Thanks for all the testing. Could you update description with exact model numbers in the description. Preferably from the box. Not just links to the amazon, as it is hard to buy from other sources.

I just bought a apple USB c cable. I'm not an apple user but after a bunch of broken cables I just got fed up and bought a 20m one for 20 from them. So far it's been the best USB c cable I've had
