Invasions of the Sea Peoples: Egypt & The Late Bronze Age Collapse Ralph: The Sea Peoples were the returning Hyksos peoples of Egypt. The Hyksos were exiled in about 1580 BC, and settled all across the Mediterranean islands. They were bolstered when Akhenaton was exiled in the 1320s BC. In the 12th century, they reinvaded Egypt, to take back their homeland.
This was ultimately successful, and the founded the 11th century Tanis pharaohs in the Nile Delta. See the book Solomon, Pharaoh of Egypt. So the motive is obvious - they were taking back their ancestral lands in Egypt.

I wish they would make a series or movie about the late bronze age collapse. Especially since we know so much more in the last 30 years. Two things we know from this period are 1. There was a volcanic eruption 2. The sea people came from the north or northwestern area. Some say they were Greek or came from Anatolia but why would they destroy their own cities. At this time there was a massive volcanic eruption in Iceland which is what pushed the people down towards the eastern Mediterranean.

Early Vikings, I'd guess. Scandinavians and Brits? Possibly Western Mediterranean tribes but I would have thought the Westerners would be known to Egypt et al. Who knows. I'm going with the heavy metal Kings of Tin. Tin Pot Dictators of North-West Europe and Britain.
No one can destroy The Metal
The Metal will strike you down with a vicious blow
We are the vanquished foes of The Metal
We tried to win, for why? We do not know.

Very interesting material, BUT. the background music is VERY LOUD and muffles the reader's voice. The reader speaks VERY, VERY FAST. If not for a transcript, I would miss the half. The author has British accent, which is difficult to follow people, who used to American English. Please, SPEAK SLOWER and be MORE ARTICULATE and reduce the volume of background music. Otherwise is very valuable material. Thank you

The Gypsy remnants are the ancient Sea Peoples whose DNA indicates they are Indian. The sunken land off the tip of India is their homeland. Science has pointed out the trade with Inidia but neglected to see the civilization at the Indian end that were the originators of the trade. Huge mistaken concepts have been allowed to stand and will confuse the issue for centuries as it already has.

There are theories about Iron working entering the Mediterranean from Caucasus through Thrace, although most sources Ive read put this about 800 bce. Perhaps trading in iron preceded the technology and as the Eastern Mediterranean was cleared of the old kingdoms the old wealth mill - copper/tin trade became less profitable? Was the coming of Iron the cause of the Bronze Age collapse?

Fun fact- The Tin referred to in this video is the source of the word Britain. (The first travelogue On The Sea spoke of the tin miners on a northern island, which it called Prittanke centuries before the birth of Christ. It would be interesting to see if any Sea People clues are in THEIR archeological digs re: the time period, given the severing of their main income source.

In the Hittite warrior one of my favorite books it has it has it as both an uprising and an invasion the Hittites had long held dominion over lesser peoples and treated them more like salves than citizens of there empire so when the sea people cane they revolted against there masters burning towns villages and desolating cities along with the armies of invaders

The kiln story was just one letter in a collection of clay tablets, and it turned out not to be a kiln but instead an overturned clay basket amid burned remains of the structure. There were certainly other letters asking for help against a group that sound like Sea Peoples, but none in kilns.

The chosen snapshot was not representant to long term political dynamics in that world. Fe Assyria supported Israel to keep Egipt weak. It was a short period of peace like the one we live in now - easy to guess modern views & idelogy is used to reinterpret history to fit modern dogmas.

IE herders evolved sailers kicking semite butts. Just after kicking butts of sick old euro graineaters - the weak after civilisation collapse from a virus epidemy ( grain makes vitamin deficient and destroys immunity ) that created there a power vaccum. Steppe hunters always win.

Sea peoples were germanic people and their subjects. Just look at the contemporary Egyptian depictions of their ships, weapons and equipment. Jordanes in his Getica in VI AD described ancient campaign of Goths against Egypt, which roughly fits the description from Egypthian side
reply

I'm going to be the first one to say it the Egyptian depiction says they were fish like men that came from out of the sea they didn't say anything about them being seafaring they knew what that meant these were people they couldn't describe and it said that they had tridents

your a lil off the only writen tale is much later from a greek the same one we get the atlantis tale from and according to him they all but had conquered egypt but the greeks intervened and thanks to them stayed complete egyptian collapse but. it was devasting to everything
reply

Egypt was collapsing centuries before 3000BC. The near logarithmic decline is visible in female egyptians, and once they reach a certain point, male egyptian culture collapses to intersect creating the true bronze age collapse. Djozer's pyramid is someone elses.
reply

May be Sea People were the same folk from Mecklenburg bronze age battle or greeks. There are more things under the sun than we could imagine. But if you see, egiptian people just said Sea people, there was no other physical difference between both people.
reply

The sea peoples were Phoenician no doubt. You agree? Or you agree with main stream science who pretends their clueless. It may have been a confederacy but Phoenician ships, and a Phoenician king no doubt started this raiding of the Mediterranean.
reply

When the Sea People retreated for good, shouldn't they have been carrying with them artifacts from their conquests, which should have turned up in archaeological digs by now, giving more clues to their identity and activities?
