The word cannibalism originates from the Island Carib after unearthed 17th century legends suggested that the eating of human flesh was part of their culture (although this has since been debated. Instances of human cannibalism have been documented all over the world. Its been practiced in countries like Great Britain, New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Fiji, the Amazon basin, the Congo and amongst Maoris in New Zealand. But the original cannibals werent actually homo sapiens. Archaeological evidence suggests that it was practiced by other early hominins, with evidence of de-fleshed bones dating back 600, 000 years. And excavations of a Neanderthal site in Moula-Guercy have uncovered the parts of six Neanderthals, dating back 100, 000 years and showing evidence of human cannibalism. The palaeontologists reported that it looked like the bones had been broken in such a way that they could extract marrow and brains, and tool marks showed the cutting of flesh from the bones of the thigh. Among other works and etchings on tombs and temples, historians have tentatively suggested that cannibalism was part of certain human sacrifice rituals. According to Roman historian Cassius Dio, he personally witnessed the sacrifice and eating of two Roman officers with an oath sworn over their entrails. Across Ancient Mesopotamia, its also speculated that cannibalism was part of the many sacrificial rituals that took place although there has been no scholarly consensus on this matter. I hate how people try to portray the stereotype that cannibals are predominantly native Americans. In reality cannibalism happens all the time all over the world. For it to be super taboo it is extremely common and wasn't even frowned upon until surprisingly recent. People were eating bits of mummies during European colonialism, europeans were allegedly eating people in the Congo during imperialism, members of the Japanese military ate 3 pilots and almost ate bush during ww2. Eastern Europe has resorted to mass cannibalism a ridiculous # of times. Again I'm not saying only white or asain people were cannibals either just that everyone likes to stereotype cannibals as South Americans when the Japanese were torturing and eating people for fun litterally 1 generation ago. The same with Eastern Europe they weren't doing it for fun but none the less 1 generation ago they were eating each other over there. In reality cannibalism is just a part of every society's history.

Another white lie, the only cannibals on the planet has been Europeans. It is the European that has experienced historical famines and plagues due to living in the coldest harshest resource starved regions of the Earth. The non European world has always had the most fertile soils for vegetation, favorable weather and plenty of animals for food.

Growing up in a politically correct society in a western country I learned that cannibalism was supposedly very rare and definitely not happening among or by non-western cultures.
That was a lie.
Truth is that colonisers exaggerated how common it is but in fact almost every country has cases, whether by starvation, culture, rage or else.

reply

Way too woke! You cannot even handle the truth. Cannibalism has been known for a very long time. Like the Japanese eating American prisoners of war in WW II. Historic fact!
reply

not to mention all the world's Catholics who eat and drink the actual -- not metaphorical, actual -- flesh and blood of their major god, raw, at each communion ceremony.
reply

If I had no choice. I just hope it is a pretty woman that I have to eat. All hope must be lost before resorting to canabalism.
