Ten Minute History - The French Revolution and Napoleon Short Documentary Daniel72: The impact of Napoleonic wars for the Spanish Empire were enormous. When the Spanish King Charles IV of Borboun bravely abdicated in favor of Napoleon, the entire Spanish Empire went into a tremendous chaos and that gave room for Spain's American provinces to seek independence from Spain.
Also, when Napoleon sold the Louisiana to the US it put the Spanish Empire into great pressure as now it was forced to deal with the new born USA, and its always insatiable appetite for territories.
Some historians claim that the when Napoleon invaded Spain, the Bourbon King tried to scape to New Spain (Mexico) following the example of the Portuguese King. However, Napoleon discovered his plans and made him his prisoner.

Two things that would be good sub subjects related to this how napoleon amazingly kept the French army stable and able fight and win wars during all the turmoil and lack of funds created by the revolution, and how napoleons escape from Elba and subsequent threat to Britain essentially kept the United States, directly or indirectly depending on how you see things, from being overthrown and annexed by England.

Lmao at 6: 30.
The French borrowed money from America loaned to them by the British, which basically meant the British were funding an invasion against themselves by the French.
Irony of ironies, the US still does similar things today -- borrows money from and/or loans money to other countries so they can buy US weapons to fight other countries which the US can later invade.

Wait a minute. the National Guard was there to suppress riots but uphold the revolution? Wasn't the revolution one giant all circumferencing non-stop riot? Like off with your head, next. more head loping ad nauseum? If they uphold the revolution then it stands to reason they're upholding the giant kill crazy riots.

One of the lasting effects of Napoleon if the use of civil law in continental Europe. Many countries still use the Code Napoleon in their legislation or as a basis for its legislation. The other is having a civil registry where you report births, marriages and deaths and everybody has a formal last name.

0: 49 Apparently that wasn't the case & American revolutionaries were pro King but anti Parliament who was probably taxing them a lot. Heard this on a podcast, book called _The Royalist Revolution: Monarchy & the American Founding_ by Eric Nelson who was on the podcast talking about his book.

Okay so I know this is an old video but it was the video I was watching when I thought of this:
Kingdoms and nations; what are they, what are the differences and what was the first nation-state in history? Are there any kingdoms left in the world?

reply

interesting. you said the exact opposite of the oversimplified guy about supply trains for the military. he said they learned to live off the land instead of relying on supply trains which allowed them to move much faster

What I want to know is: How was the rest of europe able to form so many coalitions and lose so often only to turn things around after the sixth attempt, their one and only victory?
reply

Because why rock the boat at this point? Lol. Brilliant I do say so sir, brilliant! Had you been a scholar in ancient times I believe the world would be just a bit more lighthearted.
reply

Imagine what it was like for the coalition that your entire way of living is under threat at the same time possibly the greatest military strategist in history is in power

If only it were the Marquis de Lafayette that won out over Robespierre.
If only the US were stronger, earlier, so they could come return the favor for Lafayette.

The Revolution deserves multiple videos. A quibble: the Parisians stormed the Bastille to get gunpowder, not guns; they had already gotten the guns from the Invalides.

You can backtrack the footprint of the English in the French revolution. Maybe an act of revenge for the humiliation in Yorktown and losing the 13 colonies.
reply

the french say their rights come from man, not God, and the reign of terror, heads chopped off and another dictator Napolean and all his wars

Guillotines are being dusted off and oiled again. across the pond. where working stiffs still pay all the taxes. and take all the abuse.

The battle of Trafalgar, where the French were late, and Spain lost what was left of it's naval power, to never recover it again.
reply

Omg! Finally someone acknowledges the fact that Britain funded Napoleons war against themselves. I've been saying this for a decade

Everyone should have a gander at the Drownings at Nantes for an excellent look at what the French Revolution was really like.

I believe that I have watched all your videos now, but I have yet to figure out how and why the Holy Roman Empire was formed
